Charge the tanker company with damage to a US naval vehicle and seize the tanker and it's oil as partial payment. And I didn't think that you'd stop it dead in the water. I was thinking "If I shoot at the guy coming towards me, they will turn."

That being said, the DDG-51 class ships are VERY fast and VERY maneuverable, so how in the name of Admiral Burke did they allow themselves to get broadsided by a big, slow tanker that takes several miles to turn a 180? Be certain of this, they already have a new (acting) Commanding Officer.
      Who is admiral Burke?

It would make sense for the smaller vessel to yield assuming the destroyer was not in a Buford T. Justice style hot pursuit.

The class of ships that the Porter belongs to are named after him.

Unless it's a US Navy Destroyer. Then, fuck off.

Well, it seems the operator of the tanker felt the same way, considering they were in open water.

I seem to recall a joke about a similar situation, except it was a lighthouse.

Just makes you wonder how these new aluminum boats are going to hold up to collisions like this. You know its going to happen.
