How does a blown disc feel different than a pulled lower back muscle?
Pulled lower back gets better. Blown disc gets worse with time. Pain difference is relative, as there are some folks that can take pain, and some that can't. Mine felt very similar at first, but then morphed into my being unable to sit without excruciating pain. Three epidurals later with no relief, and I was out of options, so I went under the knife. The horrible pain is gone, but 3 discs are bad, and one is terrible, so I will likely have another, although I won't until I have to.
Back pain sux.

Once you goof up your back it will plague you forever. I've hurt mine a number of times doing things I shouldn't have. Soak in the hot tub, a few visits to the chiropractor(careful or they will have you coming back every week), bend your knees. I lay on my bed on my back with my head hanging over the edge and it really stretches out my lower back.
Be very careful with Aleve/Naproxen and Advil in large doses. If you have any history of kidney issues then these can damage your kidneys with a quickness.
