How would you know its not the factory engine?
    VIN on the engine?

So you would be a dishonest seller and not mention the engine is not original?

Only an idiot would pay you $4500 for a 2002 Saturn with a junkyard engine.
You must not be familiar with how most used car lots operate these days. They way overprice the cars and they finance to people that couldn't get it elsewhere. I haven't seen a fair deal on any used lot (talking tote-the-note lots) in years. Cash price is even crazier. Sometimes double or triple what the car is worth if you were buying from an individual.

How the hell would I know? Most engines dont have a vin tag on them. Unless I bought the car new, Id not be able to say one way or the other.

Ive sold engines to dealerships for cars with under 10k on them, and they would still pass a CPO cert. Im not sure you really grasp that a recycled engine, from a wrecked lower mile car, would generally be better than a rebuild from City or the like.

I am just as shocked as you, but look up the prices on those things.

It needed a new motor because some weekender mechanic tried to set the timing on it and had an epic fail. He set the timing notch at 12 o clock when the TDC notch is at 2 o clock. All of the cams were about 5 teeth out, thus I have 6 cracked pistons and nearly every valve is bent.

No. Went up there and the owner, the guy that I am used to dealing with was there. He was not having a good day, it appears that his manager has been selling parts that they don't have and he has been trying to sort through this crap all day. I personally saw two guys that had the same issue as me in there. Owner was royally pissed off at his manager and couldn't get his manager on the phone.

When I told him my story, he gave me a funny look and said that the Saturn 3.0L has been pulled for months. Moved some engines and loaded it up for me. I checked it over and it didn't have an upper intake, the timing cover was destroyed, the timing belt was missing, the harmonic balancer was missing, three of the flex plate bolts were missing, etc, etc.

Went back inside and told him that there is no way that is a tested engine and it looks like a parts engine. He came out, saw everything and started cussing his employees, said that they will sell parts off from a good engine when they aren't supposed to.

He called around and found an engine that was in a drivable car, so he drove it over and is pulling it for me. Will have it tomorrow.

Damn. Sounds crappy. No discount on the engine? Especially with you spending a week and multiple trips up there for nothing?

My 2000 Camry only has 63k miles on it. So it is possible.

Pretty shitty situation, but at least I am getting straight answers from the guy I know. No discount offered, it would have been nice, but I wasn't exactly expecting it.

So I figured out by the end of the 2nd page this has nothing to do with Nado, but his brother Albert.. I wouldn't do any business with that dude anyways.
