  • Looking for LT tire advice.

Its about time for fresh rubber on my Silverado. Since I have really only owned cars (and been through every kind of tire there was) or 4x4 toys I have never played around with road going truck tires.

So what I am looking for is a quiet road tire that can last at least 45k miles. Road tread since the truck never goes off road. Only haul 500-800lbs every now and then and don't tow much. Tire size is 235/75/15 and I currently have Firestone Destination LE tires. They are ok, don't really absorb much and while they are not loud they are not quiet as well.

I am looking at some Hancook tires and some Kumahos but not sure whats the best tire to go with. Figured since there are a lot of road truck guys here some of you would have a better idea of what brand and model tire would be best for my truck.
Not looking at spending an arm and a leg too. $400-$600 is the area I would like to stay in, mounted and balanced.

    Thanks all.

Probably a little over your price range but I always got these in 17's. But I always got 80-90k miles out of Michelin's.

Why do you prefer the Goodyear? I was looking at the Wrangler but they have terriable reviews. Like they are loud and dont last long.

I also was looking at the Michelins and wondered if they were worth the extra coin. I had PS2's on my Cobra and thought they were excellent untill I replaced them with Nitto INVOs but that was a car application.

Michelins are great tires. When I used to mount and balance tires I noticed they seem to always require less weight and the road force specs were always better than Hankooks, Kumhos, etc.

My truck came with the Michelin LTX AT2 tires from the factory, I have 20k miles on them and they still look new with a ton of tread.

Front tire 20k miles, never rotated

I put Yokohama Geolander AT/S on my truck last go round and they have been the best by far. No one makes a decent 15" tire anymore, and these have outlasted the BFG's Uniroyals, and everything else that's been on the truck.

I ran a uniroyal 235/75/15 first, then BFG 255/70/15, then BFG 275/60/15 (those were the shittiest), now I have the Yoko's in a 265/70/15 and love them. I'll probably go with a 31/10.50 next time, just to get some width.

However, as said above the Michelins are worth the money, I just can't afford them at the moment. If you can I would look at a Michelin, then the yokohama.

Tire pressure and rotation can be a lifesaver as well. Keep on top of both and you'll get the most out of whatever tire you choose.

Appears there is much love for the Michelins. Guess I have to coughup a few extra coins. LOL
