I get that a diabetic does everything possible to prevent from going into diabetic shock, but wouldn't this still be considered negligence on the drivers side?

Shock can happen so fast it's scary.. Have a good friend who's diabetic that was having so much trouble with getting the sugar level correct they had to implant the auto dose unit..
My grandmother used to carry different food types with her at all times, but sometimes even that didn't help..
