I had a 1980 F100 with an inline 6 300 with 350k when I got the truck. At 490k miles my ex drove it without checking the coolant level and it caught fire. That was when I was 20. I've seen it twice still driving around a decade later

Those 300s are damn near indestructable.....you have to do something really hateful to kill them...

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

We had a Toyota Matrix in @ work and it had 299,999mi registered on the odometer. When we asked the customer if that was the actual miles, he said he took it to the dealer to see why it stopped working. The dealership told him that the car was never designed to last that long and the odo was programmed to stop ticking at 299,999! Shows the faith that the company has in its vehicle, or is it just reliable? According to the guy the car actually has around 400k mi on it.

My 96 GT had 182,000 when I sold it. Only replaced the intake with the pi version with aluminum crossover and the clutch. Guy I sold it to put another 75,000 on it and only had to replace the radiator and fuel pump...I'd say we got plenty of mileage out of it and I beat the shit out of it almost daily!

First and only import I've owned was an Audi A4 Quatro. Damn thing tried to kill me. Safe car though!

I liked it, but it's the only car I've almost died in. I'll stick to Fords, they kill you slowly, LOL.

They ARE indestructible. A long time ago I worked for a place with a beater Ford for a work truck. It leaked like a sieve and routinely lost oil pressure. It eventually got to the point where it never had oil pressure and the lifters clattered something fierce. We tried, for months, to blow it up so the owner would have to get us something newer. I drove it from south Grand Prairie to the Delta terminal at DFW and back in the middle of the summer with it clattering the whole way. When we finally tore the motor down there was so much sludge in the pan (you could stand a heavy screwdriver in it) that the pick-up was completely covered. I have no idea how that thing didn’t lock up.

I've got a 2003 Expy with a 4.6, and 205,000 miles. It's had a blown head gasket for the last 8,000 miles that I know of. This fucking thing won't die. The only things that have ever been replaced are 2 batteries, shocks, brakes, rotors, a couple coil packs, and 2 window regulators. I'm changing the oil more frequently now due to the head gasket (every 1500-2000), but I can't bring myself to spend the money on a head gasket (not worth it), and I damn sure am not going to replace it until its a forced decision. When I bought it I said I'd drive it til the wheels fall off. And that's what I intend to do. Too cheap to spend the money on something new unless I have no choice.
