  • Most Un-American thing...

    you've ever done?

With all this talk of limiting people's freedom of speech, etc., it got me wondering. What is the most un-American or unpatriotic thing you've ever done? Take benefits you didn't need/deserve/earn? Burn a flag?

I think for me, it's not voting in a presidential election. It was Bush vs Kerry. I wasn't a huge fan of Bush, but there was no way in hell I thought Kerry could be the leader of the free world. I knew Bush would take Texas, so I didn't even bother.

I refused to say the pledge of allegiance for a long time as a teenager at school because I felt it was forced and not sincere.

Thanks for posting that. It reminded me of the other reason this topic was on my brain. I caught the medal ceremony for the female gymnasts and 4/5 of them stared at the flag during the playing of the national anthem, one of which mouthed the words. The 1/5 stood there with her hand over her heart while she looked all around the room and cut her eyes to different stuff. It reminded me of the Josh Howard incident from a few years ago. I didn't look long, but this is the only thing I found.

*edit* You can't really tell in the photo, other than the one person whose head is pointed in the other direction

I did that, just because I was a brat for awhile and had not understanding of it all. Billy-bad-ass.

Never participated in a presidential election because I don't see the difference between the candidates.

I noticed that as well. I think it’s in poor taste to not pay attention during the presentation of the flag/anthem.

I don't know all the words to the national anthem. I would be willing to bet that nobody on this website does either.

I also believe that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel, and that I am not better than anyone else simply because I happened to be born in a certain place.
