I think its a fucked up situation no matter what his occupation is. Its bad enough someone is in the hospital but to evict him and steal all of his personal belongings is just plain fucking dirty.

If he wasnt a soldier would you guys care? This shit happens everyday.
I would care however in the military world they are "orders" not "suggestions" When you are told to go you go. I left once for a 5 week at sea period and came home 6 months later. That is why there are protections in place for this sort of thing. What makes it shitty is the apartment complex supposedly knew about it. If that is the case I hope they get butt diddled.
As far as a 15 year E-5 I would bet a beer he is a reservist. On the Navy side the promote very slow sometimes.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to derail the thread by going there, because this is fucked up, regardless of it being a soldier.
We obviously don't know the details, but it sounds like this happened because he was a soldier in in a military hospital, instead of at a local hospital, close to family or a good friend that wouldn't have to go through any chain of command to get shit handled.
Command should have involved base legal and this never should have happened. POA my ass. Even a simple POA only requires his signature and a notary.
My brother-in-law used to be a prosecuting attorney in the Air Force (now a judge) and he used to handle cases like this and would go after the Real Estate Agencies/whoever was being under-handed. I don't think he ever lost a case.

I used to work with a guy in the air force that was in for 20 and came out as an E6, but he wasn't the sharpest bulb in the change tray if ya know what I'm saying.
Landlord vows to return evicted soldier’s property
August 3rd, 2012
Sgt. Mark Porrazzo lost his home while he was hospitalized, and his landlord is accused of selling the soldier’s belongings.
The landlord who evicted a hospitalized soldier from Fort Hood, Texas, and is accused of selling and trashing the soldier’s belongings, is reversing course, supporters said.
Tommy Atha has promised to reunite Sgt. Mark Porrazzo with his belongings after Porrazzo’s platoon leader posted an open letter about the situation on the pro-soldier Guardian of Valor website.
But the soldier’s sister, Jeannette Porrazzo, told Army Times she will believe it when she sees it.
“I don’t really buy it. We’ve really had to put a lot of pressure on them to do the right thing,” Jeannette Porrazzo said.
Mark Porrazzo, 32, of 31st Chemical Company, 2nd Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Battalion, was on a training exercise with his unit at Yakima Training Center, Wash., when he was hospitalized in May, according to his platoon leader, Lt. Wesley Krajca.
Porrazzo, a 15-year Army veteran who has been deployed to Iraq four times, was initially hospitalized at Madigan Army Medical Center, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. His sister and Krajca asked Army Times to keep private the nature of the hospitalization.
Mark Porrazzo has since been transferred to Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood.
According to Porrazzo’s sister, her brother is still missing between 15 and 20 personal firearms that were inherited from Porrazzo’s late father, who owned a gun shop. Among them were several antiques and a .50-caliber sniper rifle.
In a statement, Atha cast himself and his company, Town Line Properties, as the victims, saying he has endured “false allegations and threats” since the eviction was made public.
Atha said he had tried to contact Mark Porrazzo’s chain of command before the eviction, but it did not respond until recently. He said he requested that the Army investigate.
Officials with the soldier’s parent unit, the 48th Chemical Brigade, said in an emailed statement that they are working to recover the soldier’s property and investigate any breaches in Texas law or Army regulations.
HELP FROM CHAIN OF COMMAND
Krajca, the platoon leader, told Army Times he had been in contact with Town Line representatives throughout June and was assured that Mark Porrazzo would be able to pay his rent when he returned to Texas.
However, when Mark Porrazzo returned in late July, he learned his locks had been changed and his home had been rented to someone else, Krajca said.
“We feel it was done really dirty,” Krajca said. “They knew he was in the hospital and couldn’t do anything.”
Krajca said Town Line representatives told him Mark Porrazzo’s possessions were either thrown out or auctioned off to pay three months of back rent.
“They were adamant that they were in their rights, and this had all been done in a legal way,” Krajca said.
Krajca said that in frustration, and with the approval of his company commander to go public, he sent a letter to Guardian of Valor and Texas legislators complaining of Mark Porrazzo’s treatment.
“They teach us to look out for our soldiers, and that’s what I was trying to do,” Krajca said.
The post on Guardian of Valor generated more than 250 comments as of Aug. 2, many of them supporting Mark Porrazzo and blasting Town Line Properties.
In response, Atha posted a comment, saying he could not breach a client’s privacy, but offered assurances “we have not done anything improper.”
“We are a family oriented agency, and we will continue to serve our military community with much honor and pride,” the post states.
A rally and candlelight vigil in support of Mark Porrazzo, organized by his sister, was scheduled for Friday across from the main gate of the post.
She called her brother’s eviction “deplorable and despicable.”
“It doesn’t help in his healing process,” Jeannette Porrazzo said. “It has certainly caused a lot of stress, and stress is the last thing he needs.”

Reason: Added article for the lazy ass poster
Either way, how many times has this happened to military personnel and never made the news? Landlord is doing this under pressure, not because it is the right thing to do.

Maybe Chive will get behind this and hook him up, I mean the grandma got that enormous amount of cash.
I hate this mentality.
One person recieved a windfall of generosity from strangers, then its suddenly "well X just had a bad theing happen to them, they should get the same"
Bullshit. Yeah it sucks that the soldier got fucked over by a sleazeball landlord, but people need to stop expecting or looking for goddamned handouts. (even 3rd party hopes)

Initially they said everything was sold legally and when the pressure was put on, magically everything is back. They said a lot went missing from the time they changed the locks to the time the new tennants took over but now, magically, they know where everything is.
I bet a bunch of buddy sales went on on his weapons and when this blew up, they had to go get them back
