My company has a retail store and sends out magazines/emails to buy its products every quarter. I have never bought one single item with my companies logo but received dumb items here and there over the years.
We also have a points program and i have gotten some good things like pots and pans, drills, and watches..
We also have a points site that we can use to get corp discounts. Every purchase gives you x amount of points and each point is x amount of dollars.Last edited by mstng86; 07-28-2012, 07:57 AM.

I have gotten a few fridges that had cosmetic damage but make great garage/patio fridges

I see both ends of it here, it's good to be on the revenue side, rather than in a cost center.
On one end, my 5 and 10 year gifts were lame (a wooden destop clock and a acrylic plaque), but they did also give me $100. Still a pittance for 10 years of dedication imo. We also spend 10's of thousands a year on the piddly little stuff that we hand out at conferences, that I gurantee gets given to kids and/or tossed in the trash. As was said though, if you show up with nothing, everybody notices.
On the other hand, I got an HP netbook when Windows 7 was released, a nice flip up digital camera, $250 sunglasses, and most recently an iPad 2. Add to that $5-$10k in SPIFFs every quarter, I can't compain too loudly about the anniverary stuff.
Again, that's because I'm on the side that makes the company money. The operational side at corporate is included in drawings that we have 3-4 times a year, which includes a host of gifts ranging from a $25 gift card to a $300 Xbox. About 150 people draw for 15 or so gifts though, so better stuff than the aforementioned trinkets, but the odds aren't good. I haven't won anything in the last year +. Aside from that they don't give out jack shit, but I do think it's better to have a chance at getting something I'd like, than getting useless trinkets a few time a year.

In my experiences unionized workers are the loudest complainers in the world. It doesn't matter how good their benefits / perks are compared to the rest of the workforce there will still be constant complaints. To balance that out, I've known some quality people that belonged to unions that worked hard and never complained about anything.
From my viewpoint, I would take the free gifts with a smile and a thank you. Many of us work for companies that pay far less, provide far fewer benefits, and give little back to the employees....especially at the lower levels. Be happy with what you have and overlook the trivial.

The trinket crap is nice, but not necessary. Most peeps know it doesn't compare to the gross over spending thats done in other areas of the company. The top brass usually gets their balls licked at the company's expense. Knowing this, they can keep their stress balls and company logo apparel.

They do drawings at our Christmas party. They give away simple stuff like $250 gift cards to Lowes, Home Depot, iPads, big screen TV's all the way up to 5 day all-inclusive vacations. I've missed one Christmas party in 11 years - my name was drawn for a pair of round-trip tickets to anything in the US, but you have to be present to win... FML.
