We usually take 45 from mobile up to meridan when we come back from florida. The worst part of that drive is that about %40 of it is two lane and it's slow, but the rest is 4 lane divided and traffic is good.

I've done 49 from shreveport to layfette and it's a beating.

Seems like i did the mobile -> hattiesburg route once it and it was a 2 lane whipping all of the way.

We took #3. Went 10 to 12 around Baton Rouge and back to 10. Just went to Pensacola last month on this route. The only problem we had was in Mobile at the tunnel. We sat in traffic for about an hour trying to get people through the damn tunnel.

Even with that hold up I made it from Pensacola back to Tyler area is just over 9 - 9.5 hours.

Route #2 is what ive always done driving big trucks, from mobile to ms state line is part 2 lane but still not a bad road.

Alot of the Baton Rouge traffic issues were secondary to the construction on 10 and 12. Majority of this is taking place in the evenings right now. I've relocated to Baton Rouge in the last few months so I've had the pleasure of dealing with it. Watch out for the LSP on the basin bridge and on 49 they'll pop you for being just above the Speed limit.

Its 50 miles longer but I come through Texas, better to drive 75mph on I-45 than 60 through the speed traps all along in LA, especially in Natchitoches (pro;Nacatishe) biggest speed trap in LA.

I go I-10 to Houstons loop 8 to Hardy toll to I-45, Once I arrived in H-town through traffic time and decided to take a back country road, so at Beamount I went north at 287/69 to 190 and came out at Huntsville. I've done this trip many times and have done all the routes mentioned, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take 49 through Mississippi. Its a two laner with plenty of lights.

#3 because the speed limits are consistently higher.

There's a couple detours you can take to shave off some time in LA too around the 10/49 (or whatever) interchange, I think 180? it saves about 10 mins.

I'm in Florida with work right now and will be here for about another month before heading back home. Last time I came down 49 in Louisiana it was nice because for the most part the speed limit was 75 so you could set the cruise control at 80 and make good time.

I drove through the tunnel in Mobile a couple of times about 2 weeks ago and had no problem, but I came through there at 5 in the morning and about mid day so I never ran into any traffic really.
Annoying people, one post at a time!

Last time I went to Gainsville,Fl from dfw I went to Houston on 45 and took I10 to tallahasse. I was tired then so I slept at a rest area and made the rest of the trip after that. I thought the mobile tunnel was pretty cool as tunels go. Those locals in La were hard to understand but the long bridges were nifty too as bridges go. Been a few years ago.

This is my trip, I usually stay at the LaQuinta in Pensacola right off of I-10 and then proceed to Sarasota the next day.

I've done it once non stop, ONCE! Left Allen @ 7:00am and arrived at the Marriot in downtownTampa at 12:00am CST. I was in my 02 Lightning, that was a fun trip.

I personally hate 49 in Louisiana from Shreveport to Lafeyette(sp). That's the only stretch of freeway I have ever driven that I have fallen asleep on. That piece of road depresses me.

I was about to ask how 49 was. Looks like i may need to redo my plans.

Yes, its probably the shortest, but it does suck. Thats why I like the Texas route to I-10

I do too. My only thing is I have an old buddy that lives in Jackson, so That's another reason I was planning to go that way. Hmmm.
