We left Destin around 1030am, took a 45 min lunch in baton rouge and made it here at 7pm so I can't complain about the highway speeds. But that 49 stretch would be unbearable under 80mph.

I drove to just north west of Baton Rouge last year to pick up a FEMA trailer for my sister. On the way back I was cruising at only 60 mph (was about maxing out the tow capacity of my truck) on I-49 heading north. Yeah, it was unbearable!!

As far as getting thru the tunnel in mobile - if you are headed west there is a bypass that starts at the exit right before the long bridge (Daphne exit). Take the exit and then when you get on the cross-road you turn left immediately, which takes you across another bridge. At the end of that bridge you can either get back on I-20 right before the tunnel or you can keep going and take another tunnel that runs under the water. we had to do that coming back from Florida last month and we breezed right on through there.

Coming east it's the same path, but i can't remember exactly how to get to that tunnel from the east.
