You're making pretty good time. I made the drive with my 12, 9 and 4 year olds and there were times I wanted to drop the 3 of them off at the next bus station with fare in hand and tell them to find their way home. I can only imagine your situation.

LMAO.. If I am driving away from my house and have already turned off our street I won't go back if I have forgotten something.. Well, assuming it isn't a huge deal (like a passport for an international flight). It would have to be pretty damn important to have a pilot turn a plane around.

A few years back, I did a turnaround to Jackson, MS and back one day. I20 is FAST! I knew it was to Shreveport, but it got faster once we went east of Shreveport.

Yea we may fly next year- what airport so yout fly into? Was it pricey?

I just got back from New Orleans and I hit the Baton Rouge area around rush hour but the traffic wasn't bad. Jump off I10 and pick up I12 just outside of Baton Rouge and the ride to Mississippi is a good deal shorter.

I-12 was great, we did 85 on it the whole way.

I've done 49 from shreveport to layfette and it's a beating.

Seems like i did the mobile -> hattiesburg route once it and it was a 2 lane whipping all of the way.

yea the 2 lanes scared me off the other two routes. We just did 90 mph on 49, made excellent time, but there is literally nothing between Lafayette and Shreveport. Kids were bouncing off the seats an hour from Shreveport so we had to call it a night here. We left Destin around 1030am, took a 45 min lunch in baton rouge and made it here at 7pm so I can't complain about the highway speeds. But that 49 stretch would be unbearable under 80mph.

Watch out for the LSP on the basin bridge and on 49 they'll pop you for being just above the Speed limit.

yep two were sitting there at the end of the bridge, I can't believe the speed limit is only 60mph on that long bridge.

There's a couple detours you can take to shave off some time in LA too around the 10/49 (or whatever) interchange, I think 180? it saves about 10 mins.

I saw 180 on the map, I'll definitely be taking it next time.

it is like I10 west of Junction tx.

so opt 2 doesn't have a lot of towns?

When we go visit them out there we take that route as well.

Edit - a little tip/difference in your route....we always take 190 to avoid inner-city Lafayette and also inner city Baton Rouge...coming from the east take a look at your map, you will catch 190 before you get into Baton Rouge, and it will take you up a little north and then straight across west all the way to Opelousas....it will save you a considerable amont of time.

                Safe travels.

Thanks. That 180 highway will be on our route next trip.

We're flying into Pensacola, and have to drive to Mobile for the flight back. I used AA miles and it took some effort to find a flight for 12.5K miles one way. Almost all of them were 25k one way.

Mobile, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Vicksburg, Monroe, and Shreveport are the only cities/towns of decent size. The rest are small towns.
I usually made the trip in 10:30 to 11:30, depending mainly on traffic through the bigger cities.

LMAO! This is why the past few times we've made this trip, we leave in the evening..., no sun in my eyes, kids sleep all night, no potty breaks, wife sleeps most of the way, only stop is to fill up the tanks, make a sammich, stretch, use the bathroom then go...just me, the road, and my thoughts.

Of course I'm a worthless zombie part of the next day but...I prefer it that way. Although, I think this last time was the last time I'll do that non-stop.

If we drive again thats exactly what we are doing- 7pm departure.

We stopped around hour 7-8 for sanity purposes. Non-stop would be a beating.

On a side note I was impressed with our new enclaves gas mileage. 21.1 mpg hand calculated averaging 76 mph for entire trip.
