  • Which route? Destin, Florida to DFW?

    I see 3 options:

1- mobile, al to meridian, ms where you hit I20 then straight shot to DFW

2- mobile, al to hattisburgh to Jackson ms where you hit I20

3-take I10 to Lafayette L.A. then cut up to Shreveport. My only concern with that is hitting baton rouge at 5pm today.

    Anyone driven this route before?

I'm pretty sure PC Miler has more "1st hand experience" than anyone else on the board.

I like route 3 personally. Sometimes that jaunt through Alabama can be a whipping

                      Route 2.

                      Edit -
I drove to Florida earlier this year via route2 and had no problems. A few years back, I went to Florida via route3 and I49(Shreveport - Lafayette) seemed to be pretty rough as I recall.

I'm cheap, so I prefer the first route I posted since it's only 717 miles..

On a trip to Disney, I've driven #3 twice. Though the drive itself is a beat down, I thought it was the best route. We're headed to Destin in a couple of months and I'm glad we're flying. I just need to figure out some family friendly stuff to do down there.

I have driven to/through that area a few times. I like the 3rd route. It is a little longer but typically less traffic. I just got back from New Orleans and I hit the Baton Rouge area around rush hour but the traffic wasn't bad. Jump off I10 and pick up I12 just outside of Baton Rouge and the ride to Mississippi is a good deal shorter.

we drove back from Orlando and hit Baton Rouge during the afternoon rush...I don't recall it being that bad. The previous time we took I-10 to Hattiesburg and Jackson and it was alot less traffic. I don't recall favoring one more than the other, we left when we planned and got there when we got there.

I definitely wouldn't go to Meridian..too much of a direct North to South route when you can be going diagonally through MS.
