We should give more hoots wefare and have 4 generations on disability starting at age 60 grandma, 40 mom, 23 daughter, 6 grand daughter. Then cut funding to our military because who gives a shit about those guys.

Senator Simpson from the Simpson-Bowles committee that came up with the plan, that Obama ignored, to cut the deficit was on CNBC the other day. He said that we spend more than the next five largest nations combined on defense. Something like $750 billion a year when the next five combined spend $550 billion.

If that is the case then yes, we should cut defense spending. Frost has a point about how it will get done though, it is bullshit. It should be done in a way to promote efficiency.

Ever been in a firefight without grenades, no backup and the only thing you have ammo wise is what you brought into the fight?

It pisses me off when people scream about cutting defense when defense is actually an ENUMERATED OBLIGATION. Cut everything else before you touch that. I don't care if you cut food stamps, medicare and medicaid, payments to illegals, section 8 housing. Cut it all before you take one dollar from defending this Republic.
When the fuck did you deploy and out of what unit? Even as a provisional motor t guy we didn't leave the wire with less than 500 rds and enough 40 mm's to level a corner of fallujah and that was fairly early in the war. I know you're not lying I'm just astounded there was an Army unit less equipped than the Corps in theater back in the day.

I was in Iraq in '03 at MEK outside of Fallujah in an Army Infantry battalion attached to the Marines in Anbar. We too were sucking on supplies, we had nothing but soft shelled HMMWV's and we were told to conserve 240 and 249 ammo as well as 40MM HEDP because resupply was few and far between. If I had 300 rounds of .50 for my one M2 I was lucky.

I can see that happening pre-05 which is why I asked when he was deployed. But it's not like the entire war has been under supplied, of course theres always going to be a little lag time for the support industry and command staff to catch up to the realities that's nothing new to warfare.

No hard numbers...I just work for a major defense contractor and have seen how much waste is thrown around. There are several scenarios I can throw around...many already addressed.

Exactly...and I believe the us composes over 40% of worldwide defense spending.

April 4, 2004 Sadr City, Black Sunday. We rolled out with combat loads only and our QRF vehicles and QRF commander left us. We had personal loads and that's it because we rolled out on a rescue mission. I had 800 rounds in drums, 210 round magazines, and Brads had under 200 rounds coax and something like 4 25mm. My Colonel wrote a book on it and it was in Time magazine and nightline. It sucked hard.

Right, so why haven't you asked your company to stop wasting shit? It doesn't matter if we have 100% of the worldwide defense spending. Defense spending is constitutional. Before you touch it, you deplete everything that is non constitutionally mandated.

Yeah I'll just go to the CEO and ask for us to "stop wasting"...

Most wastes are a result of governmental beauracratic bullshit, poor procurement execution, and departments needs to spend their entire budget or risk less funding next year.

The constitution does not dictate that we spend xxxbillion on defense. I'm not against cutting a lot of other programs as well. Especially the shitty welfare system, but defense needs to shed some fat as well. We are in a shitty financial situation...were ALL gonna have to work to get out of it.

We lead the world in only 3 categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies.

I am okay with a few cutbacks.

LOL at the thought that every other aspect of Govt wastes billions, but defense doesn't. I'm all for supporting our military and giving them what it takes to succeed. But we can succeed on far less than they spend. Far too much waste.

We need to seriously cut back on our defense and military budgets. It is crazy how much this country spends.
