  • Is300 owners.....

I've pretty much sealed the deal on an '01 IS300 (picking it up tomorrow) with 150k on the clock and was wondering if anyone else here has experience with the 1st gen IS?
It's going to be a daily driver, so I'm hoping it's as good a Toyota product as the research I've done on it claims it to be.

It's the same motor as the supra had, rock solid engine. They just get bad gas mileage and are pretty small inside.

Supra motor, eh? Good to know. I was definitely surprised at the gas mileage for such a small car. The inline 6 makes ~210hp...

They are OK cars. When we first got our dyno at RP I put every car that I could get my hands on onto the thing. If I remember correctly the IS300 put about 160hp to the wheels.

I did a Supra motor swap into an SC300 for an old roommate about 10 years ago and he threw his check book and the entire HKS catalog at it; in the end it put 798hp to the wheels on a small shot of N2O. Ultra fun car but it was never as fast as the power numbers would lead you to believe.

                Good, reliable cars.

Watch for oil leaks, strut rod bushings, ball joints, and belt tensioners. Normal items.
