Anyone ever lived there? There's a decent chance I might be there for my next assignment.

Yep lived there till 97, My grandmothers house backed up to Davis Monthon until they built the highway behind her. I go back about once a year and swear I will never move back. The cost of living and just the way it looks out there do not compare to here IMO. If your on the base it should be ok, Last time was out there I saw they tore down all the base housing and built new houses.

I don't know about living there, but it's nice to visit for a week, especially when the company picks up the tab for you staying here: http://www.jwmarriottstarrpass.com/"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Ok.
I just bought a home south of Tucson. Look up Rancho Sahuarita. It's a master planned community with 3 pools, water park, fishing lake, parks, dog park, trails and shopping.
Housing is cheap in most of Tucson. Tucson is kind of a poor city. Not a whole lot going for it except the weather and awesome 360 mountain views. Also the home of the most southern USA snow ski resort is on top of mt. Lemmon.
DM is right off the highway and towards a town called Vail which is supposed to be the number one school district in the area, maybe the state.
Tucson is also full of trailer parks because of their popularity in the 50s. Base housing seems really nice and it appears that the base housing is a solar powered.
The awesome things about Arizona is you can open or conceal carry without a permit. You can also ride dirt bikes and atvs on the street.
Rocky point Mexico is about 3 hours away, I have heard the fishing is awesome there. It's the Arizona version of cancun. Phoenix is 2 hours north which I believe is bigger then Dallas! The weather here is awesome, it's the Texas heat but at 5-15% humidity except now because it's monsoon season.

I'm not to familiar with Tucson other than Guero Canelos. The bacon wrapped hot dogs are ridiculously good. I live in Phoenix though. Not much north of Phx is Sedona, Flagstaff, Payson, The Grand Canyon. These are great places for weekend trips. Vegas, San Diego, LA are about a 6 to 7 hr drive too.
