Great Alaskan Roadtrip

Thanks for all the tips gents. And it looks like Fairbanks and Anchorage is going to be a definitive no. 5600 miles roundtrip, plus I just found out that the speed limit on the AlCan is only 50mph. So I'm going to shave it down to about 4000 miles and be a little less stressed. Have to hit Northern Alaska some other time. Always wanted to do a cruise up that way anyhow.

I'm spending 1 day in Fairbanks, going to Denali and touring the park, going to Anchorage then taking a train to Whittier and going on a glacier cruise. Also on the way to south visiting the cat mayor in Talkeetna.

cruise through expeditionportal.com its kind of an off the beaten path type of forum but i know theres a sub-forum dedicated to alaskan travels. i would rent a cargo van if you plan on sleeping in it.. and chicks dig vans

Hood River at Multnomah Falls now on the agenda. If I have time on the return trip I might heard south through Salem and Pleasent Hill Oregon and go find Ken Kesey's bus "Furthur." There is also Astoria, where The Goonies was filmed.
