I say go regardless, but I've been on too many trips to cool places where all of my time is spent working, and no time to enjoy the surroundings. The worst was a conference in Yosemite, other than the view from my room, and a quick trip to the nearby redwood forest, I didn't get to see shit.

If you can schedule to come in a day or two early, or stay a few days extra, do it.

Went to London in 2005, purposely. It was bad ass! The subway system is awesome and efficient. Even if you're going for business, I say do it!!

I always schedule an extra 2 or 3 days on any business trip. Fortunately, my company will usually cover at least the room, and sometimes the food and drink for those days.

Kyle, I went there about two years ago with my parents. It was kick ass. You'll have to see Trafalgar Square, the British Museum, Tower of London, and the Imperial War Museum at the very least. Those are all fairly close to each other. Getting to figure out the London Underground rail system is a badass experience all in itself. If you have some more time, do one of those double-decker bus tours, see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, and maybe take a day trip to Stonehenge.

That has been my plan everytime I travel overseas but everytime my time is due, I am ready to get the fuck home.

Then you are really missing out. Every time I come home from a business trip or vacation, I am worn the F out. You can't experience a place if you're stuck in a hotel room.

Agreed. I still get to experience the atmosphere/culture a little bit. Maybe one day a week (6 week assignment) on average, but you still cannot enjoy it being rushed for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Or a conference room. I totally agree though, unfortunately the last few trips for me have been during the busy season, so I'd rather get home and get caught back up. Contrary to a typical desk job, I can't just leave it at the office. Monterey has been the same thing the last few times, though I did get down to the beach one evening the last time, and would have drove through and toured Pebble Beach golf course if it weren't for the $20 fee just to drive through. I'll be back in October, and plan on driving over to Laguna Seca. I'll make the 3 hour drive back down to Yosemite eventually as well, on my own time/dime.

If you have the time to spend Kyle, get out and see a part of the world that you may never get back to for free.

My question is, where can I stay that won't cost me an arm and a leg. I found their "best western" type hotels but even then those are still $$$

I stayed at the royal horseguards hotel. It was expensive. It was also the most badass hotel ever.

You know it's nice when they have full time employees assigned to open a particular door for you. I went to the concierge and asked if they knew anything about cigars. A few minutes later they let me know they have a cigar expert at the desk who wrote books on fine cigars to answer my questions.

Wow. That place looks baller. I stayed at a 5 star hotel once. They had dedicated ash tray cleaners who carried a plastic mold and would put the hotels logo in the sand. lulz
