It sucks that they didn't put in a door there when building the garage, a window would be minimum I would think. I would think that you could have a window added for less than $1k, depending on how the framing was done.

I just bought a house with a west facing garage door. I added the Owens Corning garage door insulation. I think it made a pretty substantial difference. I don't have hard data to back it up, but my wife and I both think it is cooler now.
