Of course now it gets thrown back in my face that I didn;t spend enough time with them. You damn well though that if there ain't enough money, you will get, we never had anything growing up. Its a no win scenario if you ask me.
That's the sacrifice you make. When it comes to having nothing or providing, I'll pick providing for my family, every time. I'll take all the bitching too, I know I provided and spent every bit of time I had left with them.

Now if the difference is between living well and living really well, that might not be worth it to me.

Instead of taking the pay cut, could you take the wife and kids with you?

The $70k cut develops an entirely different meaning when you're talking $115k to $45k instead of something like $300k to $230k. You're talking about a 61% cut.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I'm a road dog and love going out of town. In my mind time stops when I leave home and restarts when I get back. It's easy to think this way when 99% of my friends work for the railroad. Everytime I go out of town there is at least 5 to 8 buddies going in the same direction so we make it a habbit to go eat dinner, bs, and cut up. You have to make it fun so you don't miss home to much. At least this is what I tell my wife when she see's all my atm receipts lol.

But seriously it can and does suck at times. I spend 30 to 40 hours out of town and if I'm lucky get to be home about 15 to 20 hours. Most times it's 12hrs. That's the life of a railroader. Your life is going to suck, but it provides a very nice life for your family so thats the sacrifice we make.

              Exactly! I was thinking 25% descrease not 80 billion%.

It depends on what you make but you're in a position where your kids will possibly either love what you can buy them or they might actually love you as a person. My dad couldn't buy me a whole lot, but I love and respect the guy more than I ever could if I saw him 2 days a month. I might have told my friends "My dad is awesome!" but it would've been followed with "He bought me..."

I did near 6 years in Afghanistan only getting to come home and see my wife every 3-4 months. It I'd hard to do and takes a special woman to stick by for that long. I am glad to be home now but those checks were an addiction that I'd for sure.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

chilling with your kids is cool and all, but being a broke bitch isnt.
                      You must not have kids.

Not trying to turn this post into a "me" thread but since my son has been born i have worked nights and weekends... He is 8 years old now and is always asking my wife when ill be home... I fucking hate it! It's my fault because im a fucking tard and didnt go to school but here recently ive considered taking 3 day jobs and picking a new field where i would be home after 6pm, and off one day a weekend (wife and i havent had a day off together in 7-8 years other than a weekend vacation once a year).... even though I'm 31 i could do a little of night school and do something a little different.

Cant do that, wife works a fulltime job, may just need to downsize the lifestyle.

Live off a 45k a year income for the next year... Bank the other 70.

That will tell you how well your family will like that pay decrease.
