Thats where im torn. I know they benefit from the added finances, but i also know they need me around- especially the wife. And its what i always hear from other couples and families regarding absent dads/fathers that i dont want to happen to me. Man i am torn.

Fly them up to where you are on a Friday night, back home Sunday once in a while. Quick little visit, they get some travel, even if it is BFE, there is probably something close by that's cool to see with them.

Edit: When I was young my Dad was in the military. He traveled over seas for a year at a time twice. This was years ago, so he sent us a reel to reel tape instead of letters once in a while. I grew up just fine, then he retired from that and got another job and traveled some, but not as much.

I recently turned down a position that would have given me more hours and more money because it would keep me from my family; granted I am doing OK now and not exactly hurting, but the extra money would have been really nice. However, as stated above, you can't replace time with your kids.

I think you should be asking yourself as well as your wife will they be alright with a 70k lifestyle change? Yeah, you will be home more but 70k isn't necessarily chump change. I am sure there is a lifestyle that has been in motion for a while now. Will that change the way you live, will it cause added stress, etc.. Does everyone understand there will be an impact? Are you still able to put money into savings, college fubds etc? This is the mindset I'd have..

Yea my wife has had panic attacks in the past about finances, but it was more about unsecured debt and not food on the table, lights on, etc.

45k a year? again, fuck no...does your wife work, how many kids do you have? what will be your total income for the house?

chilling with your kids is cool and all, but being a broke bitch isnt.

I have never heard anyone who was retireing say " sure wish I had spent more tiime on my job"

I just left a job working 60 hours a week and making $$$ to something less,
I sure feel better. You will spend only what you have.

This job with HP has turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made since marrying my wife. Since Carpenter was born, about six months ago, I've been on the road exactly 4 days. Of course I work from home, so I've been there for everything since his birth.

I've already turned down higher paying jobs. I'm doing pretty good at HP and I'm happy with my assignments. I'll get the most out of it while I can...
