The mere fact that you brought it up means that you are obsessive about it.

The fund isn't in danger. The fund is managed by an elected board, not the city council. The fund manager seems to think it is soluble.

So you want to spread the blame to every cop instead of the one directly responsible? Now that's just freaking retarded....

If you can't see who is at the door and you open it anyway, then that's on you. People should be smarter than that.

So you are implying that both parties already had guns drawn and pointed? I guess the cops were quicker on the trigger?

As an agent of the city, everyone knows where the deep pockets are.

There is no disputing that this went horribly wrong, and I wished that things like this did not happen. There is no easy fix, or there would be one in place.
Wait, you just said if he hadn't answered the door, they'd have gone through it. So which is it? If he answered the door, he'd be dead (and is.) If he didn't answer the door, they'd have gone through it, he'd have drawn on the criminals entering his house with guns drawn and would be dead. Where is the upside?

And most innocents will pause before shooting a cop. Too bad they don't extend the same courtesy

Are you willing to say that these cops who got the address wrong and opened fire on a citizen should be put in prison for murder? That's holding them responsible.

That's what the gun is for.

If the cops were hunting down a murder suspect then they would most likely be ready to use their firearms. If the cops shot the guy, and he WASN'T pointing it at them then that makes them even bigger pieces of shit. It would appear that the cops WERE quicker on the trigger, in fact they were too quick.

Do what you want, someone else will pay for your mistakes. Generic cop thinking.

          I agree.
I guess each party saw each other, or we wouldn't be talking about it.

This isn't directed at you, SVT, but it still needs to be said..

I marvel at the thought process on this board, every one is an armchair quarterback with 20/20 vision. Everyone knows exactly what they would have done, and it would have been done precisely and correctly, yet none of the respondents in this thread have done the job.

            Is self defense murder?

It should have never happened to begin with.

How about this comparison? I delivered pizza for several years as a teenager. Even only making that whopping $5.15 an hour I recognized the importance of showing up at the right house.

...and people are HAPPY to see the pizza dude. You'd think going to an address where you're expecting trouble you'd be doubly careful with the most rudimentary part of the job.

Sure there is. It's called literacy, and competence. What kind of a dumbfuck can't read a fucking address? Oh, wait.... People don't generally become law enforcement because of their superior intelligence.

Seriously? So they knew who they were looking for, and just decided to go kick in the door to a third party not on a warrant?

                    Are you fucking high?

There are rules in place to serve felony warrants (at least in Texas) and unless they have proof that someone is in a third party's residence, they cannot go in.

But, all you DFWM FTP'ers know all the laws, right?????

Good for you. Delivering pizza is far more suited to your capabilities than executing warrants.

It's not like they said the dude was in apartment 17A and they went to 17B.

Zing!!! Because it apparently takes a lot of brain power to go kill someone you weren't looking for in their own home. I'll stick to bringing people the joys of pepperoni and mozzarella, you boys have your fun capping civvies.

Hey Einstein, where does the article say they went to the wrong address? You're as dumb as that cinderblock in the article....

                              Let me restate this:

Did he fire at them? No. He pointed a weapon at someone at his door. They had the wrong address. Similarly, if someone beats on my door and shoots me in my home because I drew a weapon on my property on an intruder.

Or do you not answer the door with a pistol?
