The above reports the the basics, as did most outlets, but Central Florida News 13 irritatingly decided to go with a lede of "A Lake County man with a criminal history is dead after a confrontation with deputies." Ten grafs down, they mention that Scott's criminal record was...for drug offenses. Drugs and paraphernalia were indeed found in his apartment. News 13's headline also describes the victim as a "a man with a criminal history," which, though accurate, seems a bit beside the point in these circumstances. In spite of his apparent drug use, Fox News Tampa interviewed neighbors of Scott who said he was a nice guy as they criticized police actions.
The fact that this website is criticizing a media outlet for being too conservative is ironic. I guess the website linked is VERY VERY liberal. How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

my friend was visited by the cops just 'at the wrong door ' once when his neighbors were being loud late at night.
my friend thought it was said neighbor and threw open the door with his gun drawn.
the two APD cops about shit a brick and pulled their guns.
he just pointed his down and directed their attention to the now quiet apartment next door or whereever.
point is , cops can shoot first and lie later. You can't ...... double standard.
take your own choice to shoot or not. I don't care cause I would always answer the door with gun drawn. they can kiss my fucking ass dead or alive. There's a decent chance theyre criminals dressed as cops , or cops that are criminals.

I guess he had time to point it at them, but no time to realize that they were the police? Come on.....
Responsibility? I'm sure that the city will be quite responsible.....
As far as having the time to point the gun, without having time to realize they were police: If he answered the door with the gun already pointed, which is very likely, and then they immediately shot him then he would not of had time to lower his weapon.
Finally the city should hold only a little bit of the responsibility. The real responsibility lies with the person who got the adress wrong, and the trigger happy officers who failed to announce that they were police before opening fire on someone in their own home..223 > 911

Why doesn't Alan worry about his own retirement, or lack thereof?

...I'm sure you know as well as anyone that when police knock on a person's door they stand off to the side. Every cop who has ever knocked on my door has stood off to the side out of sight of the peephole. They don't want you to know that there's a cop at your door so that you will answer. I'm not bashing them for this, as it makes sense. However if you aren't going to let a person know that you're a cop, then you can't expect them to act as if you are one when they answer. You can't have it both ways. If you're purposefully going to hide that you're an officer, than you can't shoot them for pointing a gun at an unknown person at their door in the middle of the night.

Sir, all I got from reading this post was a bunch of common sense mumbo jumbo. Aren't you aware that you are required by law to have a bucket full of rose petals at the door in case some half wit starts banging on your door in the middle of the night because they can't read a fucking house number?

There is no disputing that this went horribly wrong, and I wished that things like this did not happen. There is no easy fix, or there would be one in place.
