Car & Driver GT500 vs. ZL1 Comparison

Did anyone else read it? The ZL1 weighed 236 lbs more, and is down 82 HP & 85 ft lbs. Depsite being heavier, and less powerful, it posted the same best lap time as the GT500, and a better average lap time. Car & Driver picked the ZL1 as the winner.

Also, they could not get the GT500 to hit its claimed top speed of 202 MPH. The best they could get was 189 MPH, an average of both directions. That's a pretty big gap.

Has anyone here driven both?

ZL1 is a big fail, it'll get destroyed in a straight line and who the fuck tracks a 4200 lb car? Get a C6 Grand Sport if thats your thing.

plus they didn't even use the 3.73s in the gt500. wtf. They also said that the GT500 wasn't a good street car or daily driver. My 22 year old girlfriend doesn't seem to have a problem daily driving one.

Sounds about right. The ZL1 has a bunch of really exotic suspension and brake cooling that the Shelby doesn't have and it's been dialed in on a lot of race courses around the world. It does well there.

Huh? Not sure where you got "189 average both directions" but the Motor Trend test video shows they got 196 in the high altitude and heat of the desert. They also got 580/590 to the wheels, not too shabby.

FWIW, I've seen too many real ZL1 passes in the 12.8/12.9 range to believe all the "11 second" crap in the books. My stock 5.0 beat one by .2 and 3mph the last time I was at the Motorplex. And just to back that up, at Atco last night:
