I love it. The STi had it too. Not that I need it but it's a little more comfort on that steep hill when some asshat pulls up right behind you. It holds the brake for about 2 seconds and allows you to get yourself straight before it rocks back if you need it. It also does it when the nose is pointed down.

We will become dependent upon this eventually, and be fucked when the system falters.
I guess I'm old fashioned but as long I live I control the vehicle. Now the Hill Assist, only needed here a little but my guess is that in SF or CO it would be a nessasary option and less stress on the tranny and othe components.

It is another feature for no driving people... Which is about 98% of people that drive from what I have seen since I started driving in 1989
No, I didn't leave out the fact that I have an auto...why else would I ask if it changes shift characterisitics? I can assure you I can drive a manual, auto or anything else...I've been driving since 1977, and used to carry an SCCA license.

Okay... I guess your in the 2 %.... Oh wait... SCCA license. .1% Sorry. Only have a NHRA one here for past 12 years.

How is a hill going to change shift parameters? Not being a jerk, just curious.

The feature is to prevent the car from rolling back at stops on a hill. Its more crap to go wrong if you ask me.

Still waiting for the days you can get into a car... say where you want to go, and ride along....
          Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

READ the OP, I was asking if Hill Assist changed the shift characteristics.

              Why would it?

The feature prevents the car from rolling back.... How would it be needed after that?

To the OP.... NO.... does not effect shifting...

My manual 2011 Mustang never had hill assist. Unless you are talking about the hill button on the auto trans. It provides more engine braking and locks out OD.

I learned to drive a manual transmission at 15 on the steep hills of Chattanooga TN, hill assist is for pussies.

My 1951 Studebaker 3/4 ton truck had this feature as well, albeit purely mechanical.

Holy shit, guys. Ford's Hill Assist is for AUTOS.

Its not used for people that can't drive a stick. Its so the auto trans isn't hunting for upper gears while driving through hilly areas. A lot of guys drive in it all the time because it holds gears longer like a sport mode.

The '13s don't have it. Now you get a manual toggle for the gears instead of a Hill Assist button.

2013 mustang with manual transmission has hill start assist.

EDIT: Mustang performance updates for the 2013 model include more power in the GT, now delivering 420 horsepower, addition of SelectShift™ to automatic transmissions, new GT Track Package, Hill Start Assist on manual cars, optional leather-trimmed or cloth Recaro seats and functional hood heat extractors on GT

                                It's 2 different features

2011-12 autos have Hill Assist. It holds the gears longer, provides more engine braking and locks out OD.

2013 manuals have Hill Start Assist. This is the one that holds the brakes for a short time to give you a chance to get going.
