are there fixes for this or not even worth the trouble? BD makes some kind of pump for it. I understand that the VP44 trucks wouldn't be worth as much but if I can find one for a good price can it be fixed1971 Ford Torino - Time to go bigger and better.

You can get a reman VP44 for like 750. The BD pump won't be any better. They're just a shitty pump design. If you want a 2nd gen, get a 12 valve. Otherwise, I would get a 3rd gen. They're not as reliable as the 12v's, but they're such a nicer truck overall

the whole point of getting the diesel is to get something rock solid reliable. what problems do the 3rd gens have that the second gen 12valves don't?1971 Ford Torino - Time to go bigger and better.

03-04.5 are the best with a built transmission from everything I've gathered.
I almost purchased a 98 12 valve shortbed. They are very rare and if you can live without the 4 full doors would be the way to go.
The 12 valves are mechanical, ie. no computer controlled injection. Fewer parts to break and therefore more reliable. They are turd slow in factory form though, much like a 7.3. I recently rode in a stock 7.3 that was towing less than 10k and I forgot how big of turds they really were. I had one back from 04-06. Would be a great truck with a built transmisson and a 12 valve.

injector problems with a 12v mean a little misfire and $300-500 for a new set of injectors
