I love private party, but they seem to get more rare as the years go by. I deal with a wholesale guy who buys only trucks in texarkana. I know where a 05 with 150k is, silver on grey with ATS, that can be had in the $14k range, but I bet the truck above can be had in the 14k range also.

Manual Transmissions FTW. Props to Dodge for being the only manufacturer who still offers them in trucks.

I think in 10 more years there might not be ANY new cars with manual trannies

Manual as in shifted by the driver probably not but there will still be non planetary transmissions out there.

Yes as in shifted by the driver with a clutch pedal. None of this stupid clutchless paddle crap.

I don't care if the auto is quicker or has more forward gears, I will always prefer a real manual transmission. It's more fun, I feel more connected to the car.

And when I say trucks, I mean fullsize, V8 trucks. I know Toyota still offeres them in the Tacomas, but not in the Tundra.

I used to feel like that... I still love manual equipped trucks, but the automatics will ultimately hold more power than the standards the Cummins is HARD on drivetrain stuff

thanks for the input guys. The only Ford I'd want would be the 7.3 anyway.

And yeah the price on this truck does seem a little high to me. I actually found a truck just like this one with a stick about a year ago. Real nice truck and dude only wanted 14k. I just didn't have the money at the time.

So are the sticks as problematic as the autos?

No not when driven like an adult would drive it. The truck I worked on had been beat on by a punk kid with a bad attitude.

I like driving a stick, but damn when you have to shift before 3k rpm, that is just to much shifting for me.

uhh... the truck and tires are geared to take advantage of the powerband... it's not like you're driving an 18 speed Fuller in a Class 8...

pretty similar to a mustang or F body with 3.73's or 4.10's

yeah, the G56 clutches are junk... if the truck is actually WORKED and tows heavy, a stock clutch can wipe out the clutch in 20-30k miles

I've only had the 4500's and 5600's, and while I never really had any problems with them, as you start making more and more power, you have to go with a dual disk clutch. All of a sudden, the tranny doesn't shift as smooth (it never shifted "smooth", it's a truck tranny! but now it doesn't shift as smooth as it did.

AND the dual disks make all kinds of noise. Good luck sleeping in the truck on a job site.

The aluminum case G56's make even more noise than the old iron cases.

AND, if you frag a manual transmission you get to spend a grand or few rebuilding it and putting it right back in there... or one just like it.

where the automatic can actually be built to hold more power... even more than the manual tranny. yes, it's expensive to build them right, but price an NV5600 or a G65 rebuild or replacement and a dual disk clutch, and building an automatic starts to look a lot more attractive

I just couldn't live with the lack of power with the 7.3

the manuals are actually less problematic overall. Put a good clutch in it, and enjoy. I just have a horsepower addiction, and the manuals just aren't as reliable/quick/fun over about 500-550rwhp as a built automatic is.

thats what I had thought. are the 48REs more reliable than the 47REs? how long do they last on average?

the 7.3s are underpowered? I know they aren't monsters but can't you tune them and what not to boost power and still be reliable?
