  • Wife's on day 3 with pneumonia: temps of 104.9

This pneumonia is crazy stuff. Wife is the healthiest person I've ever known. 3 days ago she feels really bad, goes to doctor and her temp was 104.6 and they send her to the hospital. So now we are on day 3 and every few hours her temperature is still spiking to above 104. I don't get it, I thought fever was something you could get past fairly quickly but I guess not.

Anyone else had a family member or friend with pneumonia? How long were they in the hospital?

I had it the past 2 years out of nowhere and my temp ran about 105ish the whole time. It took a week to get convinced to hit the doctor's office but they had me in for 2 days or so and medicated to help my breathing. Just keep an eye on it and her in the hospital.

yea pneumonia is what killed three of my family members, albeit they were all over 55. When it gets north of 104 is when I get nervous .......

I wasn't going to reply but my mother in law caught pneumonia and put off going to the doctor for a couple days and ended up dying in her sleep. She was only 46. It can get serious fast

That sucks dude. I had pneumonia when I was 11. I got to stay home and play video games. I thought it was awesome, my parents were scared shitless though.

I am just now getting over it myself. Had it for the past two weeks, but I guess it wasn't very bad as i was only down for about 5 days before I went to the dr, got some meds and back to work the next day.. although my temp wasnt that high, 101 was the highest i got. The xray showed my right lung a little over half full of crap. dr put me on a z pac, amoxicillin, and an inhaler. worked great i feel pretty good now, just need to get my appetite back..

                  Hope she gets well!

See she thought it was hormones and her body readjusting after her recent pregnancy between Saturday and Tuesday but when the chills got so bad on Tuesday that's when I told her she was going to the doctor.

I was hoping they could give her something stronger than motrin and tylenol but I guess they know best.

Your mother in law that died at 46- what were her symptoms and how did it play out if you don't mind me asking?

Ive got the begininning of pneumonia (walking pneumonia). It hit me like a ton of bricks one on and then went to the doctor after i completely lost my voice. The thought it was an upper respiratory infection. After 2 weeks on antibiotic, it getting worse and I was still coughing and went to a new doctor. Wound up having walking pneuonia and put on hardcore antibiotic, some cough medicine with codine and an inhaler. $400 and a week later I still have a gurgle in my right lung and feeling a ton better. Its no joke

You said you took her to the hospital, did they draw blood cultures? If so, results?
