I don't have time at the moment to establish facts over the phone. Later today ill try and get you that information.

Ahh yes, just when I thought today was going to be a boring day, talisman to the rescue !

Why does Jeffery Pepper's dog lick it's ass?
To get the taste of welcher out of it's mouth.

But you had all the time to post a link that proved my point. Are you actually reading the articles first this time? It probably wouldn't take so long if you didn't move your lips when you read.

Is your hatchet wound currently bleeding?

But carry on gents, this place has proven to give excellent veterinary care advice in the past!
                              It's not wrong.

My dogs get wounds all the time, some pretty gnarly, and they go to town licking them. If I took them to the vet every time, I'd have no life and no money. I've talked to my vet about it more than once, and he says unless it clearly needs professional attention, just to let the dog continue to lick it and keep an eye on it to see if it gets redder, discolored, or keeps bleeding. I haven't had one get infected yet. I trust my vet. Thankfully, my dogs are old and healthy, scars and all.

There is also a ton of info online that backs this up.

There's always room for different opinions, but to say it's wrong is, well, wrong.

Licking wounds is an instinctual thing. The tongue is abrasive and helps rid the wound of debris, and their saliva contains enzymes that kill certain bacteria.

You're right. I should be less hasty to shoot down other's opinions and experiences. I apologize. I shall agree to just disagree on this subject.
