There are legal amphetamines, too. Does he have prescriptions to declare?

Are you sure it was barbiturates and not benzodiazepines? The former is a lot less common that the latter. As TC mentioned, there are legal amphetamines. The most common are some of the meds that treat ADHD.

Barbs could be for a seizure history. And like said, there are legal forms of amphetamines that will pop on a piss test.

Bigger question is did he declare any prescriptions before pissing? If not, he is kinda screwed as far as DOT rules if im not mistaken.

We get guys out on the rig on prescription shit, but they have to declare it with the medic when they get on board. If they dont, and they pop during the randoms, they are sent home. For good.
