Sounds like the Mayor threw a temper tantrum because he didn't get his tax increase.

Only a judge can decide to nullify contracts.

Unemployment would probably pay more then minimum wage. Either way I would be moving away from that shit hole of a city. I'm betting the workers will get their pay back plus back pay.

I can understand his frustration. Imagine trying to run a city that's council is so fixated on kissing ass and promising money the city doesn't have.

I think a more suitable avenue was probably available to him. Unless his plan was to attain national attention for his cash deficit, could possibly have been a good strategic move. But I wouldn't think so.

I didn't realize that you had the right to dictate what people in a capitalist society get paid? If you are a shareholder of those companies you do, in which case you should sell your shares if you disagree. This isn't Russia yet, despite what your union overlords are feeding you.

Difference is, those CEO's were in charge of private companies built with private money and they were drawing private money from their contracts. These schumucks are sucking off the public tax teat and are drawing more than the market can handle.

To which he will respond with some nonsense about the bailouts of public comapnies. The government made money on the bank bailouts. Of course the worst bailout of all is the one done for the benefit of that little company called GM, whose primary business is to provide insurance and benefits to UAW members with a secondary operation that makes cars.

I'll take that over the 40% that my commission is taxed.

Comparing CEO's and their parachutes to public sector workers starts at one major difference. Those CEO's negotiated with the company, stock holders and anyone with a stake in the company to get it. Their salary was weighed against experience, the health of the company and expectations.

Public sector workers have no such balance. No one stands in for the tax payers so politicians who want to be elected and reelected use a blank check to buy votes by pandering to these people. If they were anywhere as efficient as their private sector counterparts, you could reduce the workforce by probably 1/3 and reduce their salaries and legacy costs by that much or more

Not only no money but no ability to borrow more. State is bankrupt as is the federal government and they can't afford the interest rates on any private bonds that a business or citizen would accept to take that risk.

So judges can mandate the city pay whatever. Judges have no enforcement ability and the state can say "Fine, we're broke. YOU figure it out."
