When I got married we went to Costa Rica. Didn't care who could make it or not. Its your day not theirs. In the end you will never satisfy everyone so just do your own thing.

I was only asking because your posts are that of a woman.

If anyone thinks a guy wants a reception instead of a big ass party somewhere, something is wrong.

Its your day, not theirs. Don't change your plans just because some non-participants can't go.

The Belo Mansion in Dallas is very cool. We had my oldest daughters wedding there a few years ago. Great menu, great bar, valet parking for all guests', etc. Not the cheapest, but very nice.

How much did that cost, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm sure that Smurfette will respond to this too, but we did exactly what most are saying here... It was our wedding and we did what we wanted. We did ours down in Galveston, partied like rock stars that night and went on a cruise the next day. We got crap from parents\friends, but honestly, if it was that important for them to be there, they'd make the 5 hour drive on the weekend. Do what YOU want... you won't regret it.

We did the ceremony and reception there and it was great, I really recommend it.

My first wedding was the big thing with all the family and friends..my mother spent about 15K and I was miserable because it was what SHE and everyone else wanted.

We decided to get married and did our own thing much to everyone's chagrin (my mother had people at work saying "I can't believe they are doing that") but I am soo glad we did because it was AMAZING!

All the pissed off people got over it..make it YOUR day.

If I could do it over again, we would have gotten married during a cruise or vacation and then just had a reception when we got back....
                            This, 1000 times this.

If they can't make it to your wedding...screw them. It's YOUR wedding and you only get a couple of them.

Have a big ass party when you get back and it's more relaxed and fun. If you do a wedding you spend so much time worrying about everything and barely talk to anyone. At a big ass party (had 75 people at my dad's land and spent 2k on food/beer/liquor) we had a blast and were way more relaxed.

Go do your wedding how YOU want it and have a reception laid back style when you get back. If they are mad they can't attend YOUR wedding go fuck themselves...or pony up and go to Vegas.

BTW when are we going to Vegas?

                              Thanks!
Do what you want...like EVERYONE has said, the people that love you/care enough will come. The people that cannot make it I'm sure will let you know why. The one's that don't, don't matter because they aren't getting married.

Once you make/commit to the decision of where you want the wedding to be, it's easy to say. "well I'm sorry but this is where we wanted to have it. I wanted a Vegas wedding and we decided to do what we wanted for our wedding. I hope you can make it!" and leave it at that.

Here is info, this is the hotel, here's a website for travel deals, and I've found a great groupon for 55% off of a desert jeep excursion. If you can make it, we'll see you there."

If you want a cookout/party....have a cookout/party. Best decision we made and we had a blast. Bridget was hammered and had so much fun talking to everyone and talking about the honeymoon we came back from.

I just drank beer, ate BBQ, sat around the fire with my family and real friends and enjoyed life. If you do something you don't want, you will regret it. If you do something for someone else, they won't appreciate it. Be Selfish this one time, it is worth it. I know Brooks and you are both good peeps but this is one time I 100% say be selfish and do what you want. Don't let others sway you otherwise.
