Like someone posted above, most LEO hosters have a snap ring that goes between the hammer and the firing pin to prevent NG's.

Personally, yes i do simply because i dont trust the gun rumbling around in my center console without being safety on. If it's on my person in a holster I no problem carrying a gun with a chambered round. My gun is hammerless, so that's kind of a moot point. chambered = ready to fire, no matter what.

Why wouldn't you be carrying it in a holster that covers the trigger?

So we assume that he didn't holster his shit properly. And we know (based on the article) that she hugged him from behind. They both made mistakes, but her mistake was more directly responsble for what happened, imo.

Why would anyone "hug" a cop (or anyone wearing a gun) from behind?

According to my blame calculator, this is 67.4% her fault, 12.2% his fault, 15.3% Obama's fault, and 5.1% of the blame falls on the Texas rat snake.

Because there are way too many accidents that I can think of happening to carry a pistol cocked and the safety off.

And for everyone that mentioned it, I never mentioned carrying one without a round in the chamber... I mentioned carrying one cocked (as in hammer/firing pin pulled back, etc) and safety off as was obvious in this accident.

If it was a Glock, then there is no hammer and no safety. I believe all LEO are required to carry with round in the chamber so...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Maybe she reached around and gave his 10" a hug causing an accidental discharge....

Most cops I know always carry with one in the pipe, cocked and ready, but yes...with the safety on. However, I think it's still pretty common that some rely on their holster more than the safety....and I'm betting that was this guys issue (or maybe he forgot the safety?). Keep in mind too...most cops carry hammerless semi-autos, like Glocks....where the safety is simply on the trigger and not an actual switch.....

Personally I don't carry as much as I used to, but for me it depends on which gun I'm carrying...My Colt and Springfield both have much safer more positive feeling safeties (beavertail and grip), so I do usually carry them hot with the safety on. However my Glock doesn't feel as safe, and I still don't fully trust that trigger safety myself...so it's not normally racked.

Let me just make a disclaimer here....I'm not advocating for the cop in this situation, I think there is plenty of blame to go around here...I think it's safe to say that neither party is 100% faultless...it's a shame it happened to someone, especially someone so young with her whole life ahead of her.

I simply made an observation that it appears the mother is now trying to turn this into a rights (maybe even race?) issue, and it's a shame that everything has to come to that in this day and age....that's all, nothing more....just an observation. I'd be damned upset if it was my daughter too....I couldn't imagine and don't want to even think about it. Grief makes people do crazy things.

Me. My gun is a double action only so...its not going to fire unless the trigger is pulled.
