I think they are lighter than a lsx motor. My 91 Porsche with half a tank of gas and everything in it weighs 2850 without me in it. They can be made a couple hundred pounds lighter pretty easily

It depends on how you're measuring it, whether it's fully dressed or not. Spec for a fully dressed 2.7 is 385, which is about what an LS1 seems to weigh, although I'm always skeptical of the numbers LS1 guys throw around. A 3.2 flat-6 looks to be coming in at 435.

But as suggested, I'd be willing to bet that the increase in COG height would offset any weight savings, especially given the natural pendulum-ing rear end tendencies to begin with.

LSx is lighter than the flat 6 with a turbo on the older ones. Not sure on the newer ones. The cg does go up for sure.

Don't forget you also, in an aircooled replacement scenario have to install and plumb a radiator up front, which will help balance the car a bit...

All in all while I prefer the flat 6, I can definitely understand the appeal and won't fault someone for doing the swap if their motor shits itself and they've got a driver car.

hate to bring this one back up but rule of thumb any aircooled P-car for under $20k is a good deal..

found this one randomly and figured i'd post it up if anyone is really looking for one of these. http://www.lemonfree.com/car/Porsche...ign=criteofree

thats a lot of car for $15,000 esp. with "20k" miles one it

I WILL own a 993 some day, that was my dads dream car and I will get one to remember him by.

I love Porsche 911's, I love the shit out of them. I had a little experience with a 1978 Targa SC 911 and I'll never do that again. Holy SHIT they are expensive on parts, breathtaking expensive. Corvette pricetags, Ferrari maintenance.

That would make for an entirely suitable substitute for a 993 for now. That's a pretty good deal if it checks it.

They are not that bad. All the normal wear items such as a clutch, compressor, starter is about the same price as most cars. The oil changes suck cause it holds 10 quarts of oil. But Porsche says you don't have to change it for 15k miles since there is so much oil to breakdown. The only thing that so far has pissed me off on pricing was the spark plugs wires. They were 600. But as far as body parts and wheels go. They are stupid expensive.

                  $600 plug wires, perfect example.

Lol yeah but so far that's the only thing I've had to pay "Porsche" price on.

Unless it was a different 7-series you had for sale forever.. It wasn't quite baller status.. Dont get me wrong, it was kinda cool and all and i havent really owned anything a whole lot better.. but they werent super rare nor even that awesome.. My neighbor has one of them and they ride pretty nice, look OK, but werent the greatest or even truely a hype.. If i had to pick... I'd actually choose your old stang over the beemer due to many reasons!

Mine and the wifes cars are paid off and thats probably the best feeling as you already know

Not sure what you're talking about as I never had it for sale. I traded it in on my 06 Explorer. I thought it was a pretty awesome car!

hahaha shit. I still have one, I think I'd rather bump to a new Z than a 911.
