my stepson turns 17 in a few days and has barely even started to get his permit.
i think he's asked to practice driving, which i'm more than willing to do, maybe 3 times the last year.

it just doesnt seem to be much of a priority. however i want him to get a job and ill be damned if i drop him off/pick him up from his own work.

the high cost of owning, fueling and maintaining a car
This is a good reason to be iffy on getting into a car. I've thought numerous times if gas prices were what they are now when I was a kid, I'd have to work 2-4 hours just to pay for the gas. Which part time jobs for HS kids and such, they'd end up just working to pay to work.

Yeah - like a lot of y'all - I worked 3-4 part time jobs during the summer and sometimes 2 during school. However, a lot of parents would rather their kids work just 1 part time job....meh, I'm babbling.

Either way I'm not sure any of that really matters. Kids HAVE to drive at a certain point if they ever want to grow up. Without driving so many great things in life will be missed.

I think I will charge my children to use wifi or Internet connection. Seems like they have no reason to do anything if they don't have to pay for it.

Let's say room has to be clean to use the Internet or cell phone at home.

My wifes little brothers are between 21-25 and just now recently started driving. They had no desire whatsoever to drive. They are in Texas in the Killeen area. As a matter of fact, one of them lived with us in Forney for a while and thought it would be an awesome idea to work in Addison.(that is about 30 miles away) He came up with an idea to ride his bike to the local dart station......12 miles away and then he would take the bus to Addison from there.

I almost slapped him upside the head for that dumbass idea.

For "us" - meaning, anyone over 25 years old - driving meant a way to get away from your parents and going out to socialize.

Kids do that today in their bedrooms, with cell phones, video games, and facebook. Why would they want to drive across town to see someone when they can just see if they're online (they probably are) and BS with them that way? Other than that, cars are an annoyingly slow way to get Taco Bell or a pizza.

It's fucking weird, man. I've started calling this group of people Gen U (Useless) because they are the most know-nothing, do-nothing, be-nothing, worthless sacks of shit imaginable.

I appreciate the global ramifications, but if he doesn't, then he's a dumbass.

I had an 18 year old girl tell me today that obama is trying to force healthcare on us, like it is supposed to be news to me.

At least you'd enjoy shoving a cock in her mouth.... Elvis says there's no pleasure in someone ramming a cock up your ass. Geor disagrees. So who really knows...

I don't get it. I learned to drive our farm truck, which was a standard, in 5th grade. Before that I had four wheelers and dirt bikes. I got my first truck when I was 14, my permit at 15, and my license on my 16th b day. I even talked my parents into letting me skip school to get it earlier. I couldn't wait to drive. I would beg my parents to teach me stuff, and by the time I actually had my license I already had driving down. Hell, some of the best times I ever had were because of my cars. Loading up my truck with beer and friends, and going out to the river. Or going to the races in my Mustang. I had a gf who's little brother just recently got his license at 23. I was like what the fuck is wrong with you man! I'm pretty sure that I keep Shell in business by myself, I'll even just drive around aimlessly by myself sometimes when I'm stressed out at night.

When I was 2 years old, I found my way out of the house, into my moms 65 thunderbird, pulled it out of gear and went rolling down the steep hill we lived on. Managed to crash land in into a neighbors yard with no damage done to anything.

I was born to drive. Second I turned 15, I was wanting to be enrolled in drivers school. I love cars and I love driving. My cousin on the other hand, he just turned 14 and doesn't seem interested in driving.

Just a few years ago my mom told me she woke up at about 2 in the morning when I was 2 or 3 and found me in the garage playing with a slot track we had set up. First TV memory I have is of watching a fight at The Boars Nest on the Dukes of Hazzard.

They say the entire sports car culture in Japan is dying, shutting down little by little as youth show disinterest, or dont realize the cool things they enjoy doing in video games need active interest to preserve.

Even the new Forza Horizon game touches on the importance of Car Culture, and how it needs to be saved from apathy.
