Just because it is "tourist beach" area. They don't go easy down there on drinking and driving. Just so you know!

CORPUS CHRISTI — No refusal weekends....

No refusal periods typically are enacted during holidays when motorists are likely to imbibe — July 4th, Memorial weekend, Christmas, New Year's and spring break.

If a motorist declines a breath test from an officer, a warrant may be obtained from a judge authorizing a medical technician to draw a blood

Police now gather breath or blood samples in 100 percent of suspected drunken driving cases, Skurka said.

"It's definitely been making a difference," he said.

Corpus Christi officers arrest anywhere between 800 and 900 motorists each year on suspicion of drunken driving. The blood alcohol content level of those who submit breath or blood samples locally on average is about double the legal limit.

In Port Aransas, police and Department of Public Safety officials have seen successes with the no refusal weekends.

"It's just another tool in the toolbox — and it's a very effective tool," he said.

Did I mention the gun and knife club in Corpus...

CORPUS CHRISTI — Two men were playing pool together at a bar on Ayers Street when they got into an argument that ended with one of the men fatally shot, and a bystander also shot.

About 10 p.m. Friday, police and paramedics were called to the 4300 block of Ayers Street where they found a 41-year-old man shot in the head and the chest and a 36-year-old man who had been shot in the ankle.

I could since that attitude when I was there. A couple "gangstas", you can guess what nationality, rudely honked at me while I was pulling into a bar in Port A. I just blew it off, parked and went into the bar. The "gagstas" showed up about five minutes later and follow me while I walk to the bathroom. I'm pretty good at noticing when I'm being followed so I walk in and wait by the door. Of course they can't be alone. One walks in and says "what's up homie", with a smile I reply "I'm not your homie". He walks into the stall and the other walks up to the pisser. So, I finish my business and walk out. I thought for sure I was going to teach a couple of pukes that have that "I'm a hard gangsta for no reason" mentality a lesson but I guess they decided I wasn't easy prey. Punks... I'm polite to everyone and I don't understand why it's so cool to be a gangster now a days.

I hate to say it but that tends to be the norm around there. Weekends mainly, but holidays and long weekends are the worst...

Ive been going down there since 1988 a few times a year and I've never had a problem. And to make things more odd Ive never been pulled over down there. It seems to be a pretty laid back place to be. Over the years we have made pretty good friends and no ones ever said told me that its a bad place to live. I've had more shit almost happen to me here in Dallas and Houston than I have in CC...

I never really had much of an issue because the locals that had lived there told the areas that were most prone to these "events". I try to avoid those areas unless we had family visiting. At which point the "thugs" are not really into starting crap with a "family". Most of the time these issues come up if a guy is with a girl that is half decent and the they are by themselves. Then it is a "group of thugs" that thinks they can impress the girl by starting something.

A few years ago I was down there and dragged to a bar in downtown that I forgot the name of, I almost stepped in a huge pool of blood with my flip flops in the bathroom. At 2am as we were leaving a huge brawl broke out on the street outside. I avoid it anytime I go back although it's been a while so not sure if it's still around. On another note, there was a kickass pizza place right around the corner from there that was open late.
