If space travel was continuiosly invested in, then we would easily be able to travel to anywhere in our solar system by now. Governments care so much about buying $50 muffins and $75 sandwiches that they can not see past the front of their nose. No one seems to understand that the earth cannot and will not support us forever. It will outlive us, but it will not house us.

It was already established scientific knowledge well before man landed there. I'm not downplaying the significance of landing on the moon, quite the contrary. What I'm saying is there was a lot of research and science before man ever stepped on the moon. The actual moon landing was not as scientifically significant as much of the previous research done. It is actually surprisingly less significant. What can be said about it was it verified that our calculations and previous research was in fact correct.

I agree, in this case, the destination wasn't as important as the journey. The moon is a lifeless rock and I'm pretty sure that the reason for going to the moon was not to prove otherwise or to gain knowledge up to that point unavailable. It was a way for us to show the Russians that our cock was bigger. But in the process we gained knowledge and technology that has changed our world.

The Apollo program, specifically the lunar landings, has been called the greatest technological achievement in human history. The program stimulated many areas of technology. The flight computer design used in both the lunar and command modules was, along with the Minuteman Missile System, the driving force behind early research into integrated circuits. The fuel cell developed for this program was the first practical fuel cell. Computer-controlled machining (CNC) was pioneered in fabricating Apollo structural components.

Lol I didn't do anything. Being able to comprehend and appreciate at more than a cursory level is not the same as actually doing the assload of work that makes up the whole story.
