Who do you think makes music good enough to listen to, dummy? Maybe you should go listen to Free Bird a few hundred times and rethink your logic.

What the fuck are you even talking about? The music scene is booming in Austin. The music scene in DFW blows goats. Sure, you get the big bands that come through, but you can't just go anywhere and be able to see decent live music, like you can in Austin. Fuck, throw a rock in any direction and there is a talented band playing at that bar. In Dallas, you get the mainstream bands playing the regular big venues, and a bunch of talentless hacks playing at bars, and every once in a while there's a talented up and coming band, but it's not very often.

I've never lived there either, but I lump Austin in with San Francisco & Portland, OR. GREAT places to visit and I look forward to going there every chance I get. But, I suspect living there would get very annoying due to the people.

Round Rock and some of the outlying suburbs are more like suburbs in DFW, Houston, or well...anywhere. As mentioned, traffic is a bitch if you have to commute into Austin proper.

And of course there's all the Shorthorns running around, so I hate that part too.

We loved living in Austin, dying to get back to Dallas or Austin. Can't stand living in SF.

What the fuck I am talking about is those who make good music are usually the crazy, unstable, over-emotional, drug induced coma liberal fucktards that like to cry about a whole lot of everything. They are mostly the ones who have musical talent. Stop misremembering my posts! Shit!

What don't you like about SF just out of curiosity. I mean aside from the insanely high cost of living; that is a given.

North of Austin is where it's at if you can't stand hipster douchebags. That way you can go into Austin to do shit, then go back home to Round Rock where the normal people live.

Right, and that is the exact type you have an abundance of in Austin. We have the type in Dallas too, but they either lack talent, or are too lazy to write music. The live music scene here just isn't what it is in some other cool cities. It sucks, too. I love live music, and generally don't care who the band is, or what type of music it is, as long as they are good. You just don't find that around here. Up here it's all bottle service and the DJ flavor of the week. I hate techno, electronica, fake ass laptop DJs, etc. So in Dallas I have very few options for what I like.

That's an expensive cab ride back home, though, if you've been drinking.

Insane cost of living that's only getting worse. Real estate prices have appreciated another 15 - 20% over the last 18 months due to the Silicon Valley boom. My house costs more $ per foot than a buddy of mine's place in midtown Manhattan.

Parking - forget about it. When you can find it you pay out the ass. I found bargain basement parking 5 blocks away from my office for $18 a day. Most parking at my office runs $40 to $50 per day. I pay $200 a year to park in my own neighborhood. Spots are never available either. It always took me 20 mins of circling around to find a spot at my own house before I got the yaris.

Perpetual construction - the ground shifts constantly meaning gas and sewer lines require constant maintanance.

State income tax of 10% not to mention all the bullshit adjunct fees and taxes that abound every time you turn around.

The financial district and downtown areas are filthy b/c the city is so accommodating of the homeless.

It's fucking cold...always. 50 degrees with a perpetual breeze right off the ocean gets old after 2 years.

We now have a baby and are here very much on our own. All my family is in TX and all my wife's family is on the east coast. With my work hours it isn't like we have tons of time to entertain or hang with the people we do know here.

I dislike my company...love the job, don't like the company.

That's about it, some of it isn't SF specific per se, but a lot of it is.

I lived in Round Rock from 1997-2006. It changed a lot right when we were leaving for Seattle. I hated Seattle - due to many of the reasons just posted by slow99 about SF, but when moving back, I damn sure wouldn't move back to Austin. It's dirty and overcrowded and the traffic is horrible.

I enjoyed living there when I did but after "everyone is moving to Austin", I wouldn't do it at all.

I now live in Frisco and think the Greater Dallas area is far more attractive to live in over Austin.

Interesting, Jody. I always figured SF would be a lot like Austin. Fun place to visit or live for a year or two, but that it would get old after that. Sure is a beautiful damn city though. That's crazy as shit about the Manhattan vs housing costs. Had no idea it was that bad. Aren't you trying to move back?

Yes, my strategy now consists of:

                                1. Finding a job in Dallas now.

                                2. Find another gig here to leverage into gauranteed comp with my current job. We got fucked last year (why I hate it) then look for a job in Dallas in 2013. Sucks to leave bonus sitting on the table by leaving mid year - obviously in my field bonus is a meaningful portion of comp. I actually have some leverage right now because the other Associate quit and I'm the only one here. If I leave right now my Lead Analyst if fucked.

I have an interview tomorrow with a fund here trying to work scenario #2. Just trying to get an offer with another firm to tell my boss that I need $100k bonus gauranteed this year or I'm walking. Have to be careful though because he could easily say to hit the road!
