I do the same. I need to start looking at my bank statements...

I've not worked at many service establishments, however the bar I used to run, we paid CC tips on their pay checks, so if there was a .50 left at the end of a tip, they weren't left with hard currency, as it went on their check.

I do the same thing. I base my tip on the quality of service. TIPS To Insure Professional Service. If I feel like I am not a priority, or you are more interested in bullshitting with your friends than making sure that I have a pleasant dining/drinking experience, then your tip suffers. I am a very gracious tipper if the service is good. I've frequently tipped as much as 50% when service is stellar. With that being said, I always figure the change on the tip to make the overall bill a whole dollar amount. So if the bill is 20.33 and I get great service, my total bill with tip will usually be 31.00, 10.67 in tip. If they felt they deserved more than a 50% gratuity and round my tip up to the next dollar, your damn right I'm contacting the manager, and if that doesn't work, I'll speak with the GM, its flat out stealing.

Reminds me. We went to the taco bell o the north side the other night and they closed an hour and a half early. I walked up to the drive thru and asked why they were closed early and the girl said, "because we feel like it, if you want something to eat whataburger is down the street." I talked to the manager about the incident and he apologized and said there wasn't really anything he could do since if they fire them there isn't a pool of applicants to pull/hire from.
Take five minutes and send an email or make call to their corporate office and I bet shit gets changed. If some random fast food window bitch popped off some shit like "because we feel like it", I'd take joy in knowing her ass got canned.

I tip 20% every time. I check my credit/debit card statements for any gross irregularities, but I'm not getting my panties in a wad over a tiny amount.

When I worked at Sonic in high school the girls there got $2.xx/hr and made tip as the bulk of their income. I guess different stores can pay different rates.

I usually tip the sonic girls if they are of the hott high school cheerleading type and if they are wearing the really short, tight shorts.

In the totality of your credit card bill each month, I'd be willing to bet that not all of your transactions are rounded up or down. That being said, it's completely shitty for them to round up. To me, it's just the same as adding an additional dollar, two, etc. There was a server at a Chili's or some crap like that in Austin that added like $1-2 to my tip. Overall, it wasn't going to break the bank but I called in and inquired. Turns out, he had done the same to everyone and had already been fired before I had called. I'd be willing to bet that if you'd just leave a flat dollar amount, the problem will stop.
You better be glad the individual dropped that extra on ya. If I catch that ess on my bill they are in for an epic scene in the middle of there establishment where every diner in there will know of this practice and my displeasure in their theft. The point is it is conveinient for your customer(without which you dont really have a purpose or a need for you) and you are providing the service. Be happy they left ya something.

I double the tax and add a few bucks plus round up to the whole dolla. If you jack with the amount that I agreed to pay I am getting it all back. Now that I think about it I am going to round up to $X.99 on the total just to see if they add the penny.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

this weekend i was out with the family and some friends of ours and their kids, after getting the worst service... he brings the two tabs and they are messed up, so he corrects it and then brings them back, mine looks fine so i hand him my card but our friends had something incorrect on it still, so he leaves and then brings me back my receipt which had something added to it and then charged without me authorizing it. i spoke with the manager and he took off half of the charges but it still pissed me off that he thought it was ok to run the card for a different amount than i had agreed on.

$10.21 on $49.79 and a server should feel cheated because it wasn't rounded to $11? Servers should always be glad they didn't get an 11-top of SMFs that might tip $10.21 between them.
