It'll snap him back toward you when you runs out of leash, especially if he's running off distracted by something. Randomly stop and start. Your arm will get tired from all the yanks and jerks but keep it up. Do this for a couple weeks and you'll notice a big change. He'll learn that the only way to stay comfortable is to stay near you and to watch you.

Seriously, go find a copy of the book posted. I found a copy at Half Price Books for < $7

we had a lab like that once. He fought back quite a bit, but found a brain at some point, and was never an issue again.

Pretty much. She would have made one hell of a tracking dog though. She catches a scent and just hones in on the damned thing. She completely zones out till she finds it and it drives her nuts if she can't get to it.

Last year, we had just got out of the pool and went into the back yard. She caught a scent in the middles of the yard and started following it. At the end of the trail, she flushed a 2 foot water moccasin out of some tall grass. She nearly killed it on her own before I got to her and then I finished it off.

She sniffed a opossum out of my garage 3 years ago, to this day she will still check that same place when I let her in the garage.

I think that is why she is so difficult to walk, she catches so many smells and wants to track them down.

Is it bad that I clicked this thread just so I could read the tags at the bottom ?

I hate to say it, but I'm LMAO @ the "broke car now tuning dogs" tag.

Pinch collar will fix that, they look cruel as hell but work really well.

Tags are better than the actual topics.

How aggressive did you get? Choke chains are better used on little dogs.

not so much.. i tried using it for a good 2 weeks and quit, i looked like an asshole with that thing on him.

I bought another harness that attaches from the side, it worked a little better i guess. I'll see how it holds up. My pit is so hyper its not even funny.

Shock collar train it, if the choke chain does not work.

You have to give them a good pop every time they try and pull or run off. One of my ridgebacks tests his every time we go for a run.

“The most important thing that we have to provide every day is that we are the pack leader, that we set the rules, the boundaries and the limitations, and then we love. Most of the people, they go to get a dog because they need somebody to love. So they are going after what they need, not what the dog needs. And that, to me, creates instability immediately, and the dog sees the human as a soft energy. So they don't follow the lovable leader or a spiritual leader; they follow a dominant one.”
