Who do you work for, or what work do you do? That's one of the plays to work in right now... Eagle Ford and Permian going crazy. The Barnett has gone to sleep for a bit.
I work for a transportation company

What exactly do you need to know? I just worked a year in Dilley/Catarina /Chorizzo Springs/Cotulla.

What do you mean by good things? If you mean earning potential then yea its damn good, if you mean living and quality of life, fuck no, biggest shit hole area of Texas. But if you are in it just to make money like most of us down there, then its doable.

Is theft a major issue there?
Are the people polite/ respectful? (I do NOT look latino)
Is there anything to do there other than work?
Is being so close to the border a cause of any problems, other than increased border patrol officers.

I wouldn't relocate down here for less than 100k. That's about the going rate down here, and as bad as the housing options are, they are still marking up the rates due to the current demand. Hell some buddies of mine were looking at a two bedroom in Cotulla for $1500 that came with a swamp cooler if that tells you anything.

What city did they offer you a residence in? What kind of salary and or perks?

Higher than it would be just due to all the oilfield guys, a lot of trash. I sure wouldn't leave valuables out, but then again the towns are littered with 65k new pickup trucks, bass boats, atvs in these new make shift RV Parks.

Like anywhere you have friendly people and then some assholes but for the most part they are cordial. I didn't mind it. For stuff to do, one trailer park titty bar, and some hole in the wall bars, that's it. Towns roll up their sidewalks at dark and you will see 24 hour a day oilfield traffic.
On our wellsites we saw illegals coming across daily. They never bothered us but I'd suggest never traveling old mines road alone at night unless you were armed. Lots of ambushes and people held up at gun point on that road.

I make more than 100K, here in the Barnett.
Housing would be an issue, due to the fact I would not have company housing.
I would be working out of Pearsall.

Is the traffic inbetween San Antonio and Pearsall/Dilley anywhere near as bad as 35 in the DFW area?

Perks: I DON'T have to spend any time in Saudi
I will get a $10K a year bump in salary
I will get a Cost of Living Adjustment

Downfalls: I don't know anyone in or anything about the area.

OK then earnings wise you will be fine.

Traffic on that stretch of 35 is busy, but it moves and not near what Dfw is.

Housing wise if you spend some time really looking you can find a good place. I'd look at some ranch housing as well.

Yea, no real night life, and the locals aren't locals I'd really want to get to buddy buddy with. For stuff to do you would have to go to San Antonio or Laredo. For the 99% down there, all we would do is work, eat, sleep, repeat etc until it was time for days off then we hauled ass outta there.

Unfortunately, I don't work cycles.... I would only get to go home on the weekends. That's a long drive for 1 day at home.

For short term (2-3 years) I'd stick it out down here if it meant accelerating your career. But for anything else I'd probably pass. When I first started down here I worked a 14 on, 7 day off rotation, then it was switched to 7 days on, 2 days off and on those two days I drove back home to fort worth, slept, ate, saw the wife kids and dogs then drove right back down. After 4 months of that I said screw it and took a position out here I Midland that is back to 2 weeks on/1 week off. Ideally I'm trying to get to 14/14 and should be there shortly. But if you plan on driving back to Dfw on your day off, it will get old quick.

Fwiw I had the drive down from Dilley to fort worth in a hair over 4.5 hours. And it got old quick.

Thanks man! I knew someone on here would be able to offer some insight. I appreciate it. If we cross paths, whether it be in Midland, DFW, or Dilley.... I owe ya a beer or 10. Thanks again!

I work the efs and I transport equip to cotulla, catarina, encinal, and that area. Best place would be to live in Laredo. Everything else is small shithole towns. Pleasanton would be san antonio but my guess is you'll be closer to Laredo. Are you gonna be in the kennedy area too?

I don't think that yard travels that far east. That is closer for our Victoria terminal.

i work down there occasionally and i HATE it down there. the work is good(super busy and consistant). but the safety down there is shitty! there was a location outside of cotulla that was robbed adn they stole 6 pickups from location. i never go down there unarmed. i have a minimum of 3 pistols in my truck and extra magazines for them as well. if im gonna die, i at least want a shot of defending myself from the illegals(and they are everywhere!)

luckily i got in good with a customer around my area and i work 17-21(i work a 21/7 rotation) days a month for them, and im at home every nite. i got very lucky!!!

Are the people polite/ respectful? (I do NOT look latino) They can be but you will find it hard to make friends due to the fact most of the people there are short term trying to make a few bucks and move on to a better place.
Is there anything to do there other than work? No. Unless you like sitting in shithole dive bars and fighting.

Yes. People there that are from the south side of the border are looking to try to get a better life and will fuck you over if that is what it takes to do so.

If you are planning to move with a family (wife and kids) I would say pass on the deal. If the money os as good maybe give it a shot short term before you commit to a transfer. I send hands donw there and they are always happy to come back to DFW area. Shit the lasc crew I sent down came back and rerquested I send them back to North Dakota.
I think his point is that the fish got low balled, fucked in the catfish asshole and you paid half price. The worst part was the fish explaining to his fish friends why his asshole smelled like redneck
