Ongoing "grown up car" research: Lincoln LS

Thoughts on these cars?

From what I can tell, we're talking about a V8 RWD sedan with TONS of standard features. LSE version looks prettier, but the bones are the same. No manual transmission (fine by me) and the only service issues appear to be weak rear window regulators and a propensity to eat Coil On Plug parts.

The resale on these is ridiculously low. 4-5 year old Luxo-sedan that was $45K new and they're going for less than $10K with less than 100K miles on them.

I personally really like the looks already, and I would love the luxury, so it's working it's way into the top of my future new-to-me sedan purchase.

Others include Mazda6/Infinity G35. As much as I'd like the Acura TL, they are just too damn expensive.

Wrong forum, dickweed. I'v always thought they were nice, but opted for the BMW route instead. Known problems are as you described from my experience.

No personal experience on the Lincoln but it would probably be my choice, of those you listed. I really like the looks of those cars.

The coil issue is a real pain, because when one goes out, you need to replace them all or you'll just seem them go down like dominos over the next few weeks. Had a LOT of those come in and come back whenever the customer would only approve the faulty one at the time. Also saw a few come in with the dual climate control that the way to fix it was to replace the master unit which was not cheap at all. Infinity>Lincoln

Yeah, I've heard that too, but a full set of coils still isn't that pricey in the big picture. and speaking of climate control, that Infinity has a super-expensive heater/radio problem that seems to effect all of them.

My old boss had one and all in all it was a good car. The interior is a little poorly made. had some seems coming loose on the leather seats, and it wore bad, like soft leather does. But it was a good driving car with very little maintenance issues other that what you already said.

They're known for their transmission issues. For the money, I think there are better choices out there.

We used to buy and sell a lot of used luxury cars (we now switched to mainly trucks) and out of all of them, Lexus is the only way to go IMO

I think the IS 250 is kinda cute, but I think the interior feels kinda cheap and boy-racer-ish.

LS Isnt worth a shit. everything on them is horribly priced and they seem to break worse than other lincolns in my experience. I like the cars, but would not dare own one.

This broad I work with used to have one, and it was always in the shop. Mostly electrical issues, I think.

LS 430s are really nice, but they're more around $14-16k on craigslist. I've driven a few of those. I think I just liked the ac seats in 110 degree heat the most, lol.

As a shop owner Ive seen many issues with the LS's things you listed and also trans issues. I would personally spend the extra money and get a TL very reliable and you get what you pay for!! Just bought the wife one. Still have her civic with 225,xxx going strong.
