  • Does it pay to pay it forward?

This place is more dead then a door nail, so here's a thread to get some activity.

Do good deeds come back around?

I had sold a guy some parts a while back and forgot to grab a lower shift boot bezel off a parts car I have at my grandmas house. She lives about 30mins north of where I live and I don't make the trip unless I need something off the car, long story short it took a few months to get back with the guy. I had went to get some stuff and when I went to grab the bezel the rubber was trashed, so I text him and explained what had happen and offered to meet and return money to him to make things right. They are $35 new and I gave him $20 back.

There was also a time I drove from gainesville to Forrest hill just to sell a $25 cable, it covered my gas expenses so I didn't mind at all. I generally like helping people out, even more so when it's to help people with projects.

Do you guys go out of your way to help others, even if you don't know them? Or do you just go out to screw other people over and take all the benefits?

I use to go out of my way to help people anyway I could. I never got anything returned to me on the backside.

I did years ago but got screwed plenty of times. Now I look at it like I only help if it benefits me now or maybe later. Sometimes I do help just for the hell of it even if I don't gain anything out of it. It's usually only when I'm really bored, want to learn something new,or just to fell better inside

So I guess you just eventually stopped?

I get a bit of satisfaction knowing I did all I could to help someone.

Even at my work place, "going the extra mile" as they call it. My pay checks reflect the hours I work, not the quality of work within the hours. Where's the motivation in that?

I hate to say it but I tend to evaulate what the benefit is to me. Even when I gave away a pool ball table, I was doing an evaluation of what this would mean in good will later on

Nothing wrong with putting yourself before others, yourself is your number one priority.

At the same time, it can be a bit selfish sometimes, not that it's a bad thing.

the whole point of paying it forward is to do something WITHOUT expecting something in return, immediately or later on. you just do it cause it's the right thing to do

What are you going to do with the others?

I don't ever expect things, I was always told good things eventually come back around.

I also find it hard to take advantage of people. Maybe I'm just a bitch?
