  • IRS looking likely for 2014/15 Mustang..

I'm only covering my bases when I say that IRS is looking "likely" for the next gen Mustang. I think most guys here realize that it is pretty much a done deal. Bill Ford killed IRS on the last Mustang to save a lousy couple hundred bucks. Edmunds points out that IRS could be pulled from the next Mustang. However, we know the Ford wants the next Mustang to be sold in Europe. I just don't see an SRA being very popular over there (with the exception of some kick ass Mustang guys in Poland)..

So check out the spy shots and get a good look at your future Mustang.

I'm not a fan of IRS. I'll take a solid axle any day.

It was never a question. The biggest knock on the Mustang for the last 20 years has been the lack of an IRS. I doubt you'll even be able to get a live axle in the cheapest V6.

And it makes sense, because 99% of Mustang owners never see a track. When you compare the ride/quietness/smoothness of other cheap cars to the Mustang, it does come up lacking.

What's up with the fuel drain and battery cut off?

        What else are they testing?

Surely it's also going to be flex fuel, everything else from Ford is.

The battery cutoff could be useful for anything they want to do to the car. Isn't that the first step of every Chilton's repair?

It seems a bit out of place at the back of a production vehicle.

                UNLESS.....

They needed room for a high pressure fuel pump and a couple turbos, so they moved the battery to the trunk!!!!

Talked to a head chassis engineer last year and he said IRS is coming back to the Mustang. I told him make sure it does not have tire hop. He looked at me kinda funny.
                  Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

That's far from a production vehicle, it's a development mule. They do all kinds of weird shit to those.

PS - I would expect turbos too!!

I shouldn't have said production vehicle.

                      I still find it odd.

It's probably just a fuel shutoff for the high pressure system in the event of something catastrophic and the chase vehicle has a chance to salvage the mule.

Solution for tire hop is to have on half shaft be a larger diameter than the other.

                          Wha?

That sounds more like torque steer on FWD cars, differant lengths too.

Wheel hop is caused by slack in the bushings, no?

Would be a nice add-on for the 5.0

No, it's caused by harmonics. Putting a diff size axle on each side helps prevent this.
