  • 89 Octane gasoline

Who the fuck buys mid-grade gas? A recent smartass post of mine on facebook made me realize this. A girl posted "I just put $5 of gas in my car, I feel like I'm in college again." and my reply was "Please tell me it was mid-grade." Got me thinking, what the fuck is the point of mid-grade gas? It's a blend of premium and regular and I've never seen an instrument cluster that said "Requires mid-grade gasoline." Is it for retards that don't trust regular octane gas in their vehicles? Again, it takes a bit from the regular tank, and a bit from the premium tank. If it's bad fuel, the bad fuel still gets in there.

Please DFWM guru's...enlighten me. I won't be able to masturba...I mean sleep until I'm satisfied with a good answer.

i got a better question, why does mid grade cost 10cents a gallon more than regular, but premium is 20cent more than mid grade?

Probably because the ratio still favors regular. 87 to 89 vs 89 to 93. At least in Texas. I know premium in that California is only 91.

              Many cars require 91. (89+93) / 2 = 91.

              That's my bullshit answer.

Regular is 87. 91 is considered premium in California. 89 octane gas is the most useless shit ever.

Yeah. 89 has nothing to do with 91 octane fuel. No car requires 89 octane fuel. At least not one that I could find on the interwebz.

The only thing that I can think of is maybe in California, and whatever other states 91 is considered premium, perhaps regular is 89 and when somebody picks premium, it blends 93 and 89 to make 91? But it would only be for a couple of states at most. When I googled it, somebody said that there's a local fuel station of his that has options for 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, AND 93.

                          Premium fuel is bullshit anyways.

Unless you have a tune or a s/c, there is no reason to spend the extra $$$.

I did find out crapstang told my mom to put 87 in her mini cooper sport...(supercharged!!!!) DOH! His excuse was "well it didn't say premium fuel requiered"...............

Yeah, a combo of 89 and 93 makes 91. 89 octane fuel is made by mixing 87 and 93 at a specific ratio. Gas stations only have two tanks of fuel here in Texas. They have an 87 and a 93. The 89 is just a mix. There is not a tank filled with 89. Regular fuel in California is still 87 from what I've read just now. They're not taking a blend, and blending it with 93 octane to make it 91. 89 octane gas is useless.

I think with LS series engines and the newer 5.0 stangs premium is "required." Yes, you can run it on regular but I've heard that it can cause pings and ticks in the engine. At a certain point, higher octane is required, and maybe there is a medium with modded cars that normally would use regular gas stock, but at that point, you might as well use premium. I don't think fuel companies cater to moderately modded vehicles.
