I think Juicee's closed down, but the gold club and rosie's are still going strong, lol. I haven't been in any of those establishments since BESS. The memory of the quality of women in those places is enough to keep me out of them, lol.

But back in the day, I was probably in there once or twice a month when I was in BESS.

Have any of you guys been to Kings Bay? Is there anything worth seeing or doing there? like a museum or ect... My company has a support contract with them and they've been seeing who wants to go for a few days.

I lived there for 5-1/2 years. The "submarine museum" is a joke!! Get me your info and dates and I'll try to get you on base for a real tour on a real boat.

I have ridden on the USS Iowa, USS Pegasus, USS Deyo, USS John F. Kennedy, and a few other ships, and always wondered about fires on ships.

Being a dumb jarhead and not knowing squid stuff, I saw that the ships are made of metal, metal and more metal.

Besides the JP5 (which tastes like shit in food), what the hell is on a ship to burn?

Oh, we have a metal fire in zone 5! All hands to fire stations!!!

Most of the bad fires start in the battery. Which is very bad to say the least. But you have berthing (mattresses), electrical equipment, like Z06 said, lagging which is covering the entire inside of the hull and a lot of the piping. And another bad thing about this one was that there was already a hull cut in the fwd compt. and that with the combination of a hatch being opened caused a chimney effect. Pretty much the fresh air from the hull cut just fueled the fire.

That explains "most" fires on subs, but what about surface ships?

Same type of stuff, berthing, electronic gear, desks, trash, not to mention fuel's and hydraulic fluids. Some surface ships actually have a wooden well deck (amphibs). So that shit will burn of course.
