Question for the Navy guys

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, the air compressors are pretty big pieces of junk. But we have more than one of them for redundancy. Also as far as oxygen, we have 2 different ways to produce oxygen, and if worse comes to worse we will just ventilate the ship (stick a snorkel out of the water while we are still submerged and start a blower that sucks in fresh air and pushes air from inside of the ship overboard). Don't want to do that in some places if ya feel me though. Pretty much every gas that we make or get rid of, there are at least 2 ways to do it, and for one of the ways there are 2 machines each.

I hear you about not wanting to get on one, but they are way safer than people think, lol.

Still can't get over all the mattresses in the fwd torpedo room I think it was acting as racks. Layed out on the floor with a sea bag at the foot of each. No thanks... Least on a carrier you get your own rack small as it is... You bubbleheads are a special lot to do what you do. I have always worked the flight deck, I am all about fresh air even running flight ops when it is 10 degrees with a 30 knot wind over the bow. I can find a jet to duck behind to get warm. Y'all don't even get to see the sun.

They can't get them to lay off the weed long enough to leave the pier.

**edit forgot the smiley.. Plus I doubt there would not be enough room to grow enough to sustain the oxygen for that many people. Typically every inch on a warship is used for something.

If this is a serious question I'm sure it's because of several reasons, but the biggest is probably space. We can produce enough O2 for 150 guys with a machine that's dimensions are roughly 6x6x6. I don't think that plants in that same space could do that. And that same machine can "pack" O2 banks so that we have spare O2 just in case that machine goes down, or we loose power and have a few day supply of it.

Ok, I just wasn't sure. The new class of submarine's oxygen generator, called the ILPE is actually made by Hamilton Sunstrand, the people who make the astronaut suits, and some of their atmosphere control equipment.

That name is emblazoned on some of our C-130 props too. I used to think they were made by Hamilton Standard.

Yes, they are pretty big in the aviation industry too. We did a factory school up there in CT, they are out of Hartford. When we were walking through the factory, there were tons of props being worked on.

I don't know. I'm ignorant on subs. I can tell you infantry stuff, a bunch on the TOW ITAS and such but know nothing, literally nothing about subs
