I was the same way when I joined...I could have been a mechanic or truck driver but I chose to be a Tanker. I was young and just wanted to do soemthing cool like the OP. Of course I didnt expect him to listen and follow what I said.

Good job lumping yourself in with the dumbest motherfuckers in the military, gun rock. Sill sucks as well as the town of Lawton. Hopefully you'll get on the triple 777's 105mm is for pussies. If you have a chance to change MOS's and are dead set on arty go FO.

I got to shoot (tilt the handle) on the 105s at COP Wilderness. The Army had them at a lot of COPs and FOBs. The older 155s were much more fun. In 6 years in Afg. I never saw a single 777 being deployed.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

The ONLY good thing about Field Artillery is that you always have a ride.. I have also NEVER heard anything good about Fort Sill. I would definitely agree with SlowLX, at least try for Forward Observer.

I hope you haven't signed anything yet.

That said, congrats and good luck!

Oh, BTW, the only thing worse than AIT at Sill is OSUT at Sill, or so I've heard.

I'll tell you from experience: If you want to do Scout or Infantry, other than police, there isn't a civilian market for us.
I'd have to agree with exlude, I'd rather have a Stetson and Spurs than a "Blue Cord"

                      And EIB > CIB.

I was in the Air Force and worked on avionics systems, which was all electo-optical. Electronic training has transferred very well over to the civilian sector and I have yet to have trouble finding a job. I am sure infantry or driving a tank would have been fun, but I have been able to support my family very well with what the military trained me to do.

                          Ooooh fuck you.

I failed the EIB. I throw grenades like a girl, turned on my NVG's before putting them to my eyes and they told me I was wrong on SALUTE because I didn't see one guy under a truck. When I explained SALUTE is what I see, the grader failed me.
                          I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

Rub it in. I have some cool stories, am great with weapons and got to fire claymores. Aside from being a cop, it doesn't transfer well.

I fucked up on grenades too, but only because I stayed in the front leaning rest after I threw it so I could see where it landed.

Lol, I was in a light infantry unit before Cav, just messing with you.

And I am a little biased:

Edit: on, and for the record, I never had a Stetson. Didn't want to pony up the cash.

Oh I am not saying there is anything at all with going into a different branch doing the infantry thing; alot of those "useless in civilian life" mos' look very interesting and fun at times, I am just saying what I did worked out for me in the long run and I suggest he look into something like that. Of course being an Avionics Tech in the Air Force, I never got to play with rocket launchers or anything really cool, so it does have its downside.

Of course on the upside there are all the Air Force chicks that have daddy issues.
