That's like rules number 1-1000 for me.

    them "where are you located?"

    me "In Alvin"

them "where could we meet up?"

    me "In Alvin"

I love when they try to haggle down after driving for .5-2hrs to meet. Can't do it, the price is what it is

Exactly. I live out in the sticks (sort of) so people think I'm ready to just ride around the metroplex to meet up with them.

          that's what I do

the amount of positive transactions I've had on CL vs. negative is like 99:1

I can't complain. My biggest annoyance is phishers, but I state simply that if there is no mention of the item I'm selling or the truck it's going on in the email that I will not reply. And don't reply to obvious phishing ads. Stick to those two rules, and I have zero issues

I ask more for everything I post on CL.

Every email I send usually goes like this, what is your bottom dollar? I can pick it up in X amount of hours.

I don't beat around the bush. If you have something listed for $250 and your bottom dollar is $250 then I will either accept that or move on, thats all but I hardly ever pay what something is worth these days.

And I post it for less than what it's worth right from the start to get it gone and avoid the hagglers. I don't use it to make money, but just to unload some stuff I don't need and don't want to store, but that is too valuable to throw away or give away. I honestly like walking away from a transaction feeling like I made someone a great deal.

Maybe I should post my shit much higher than I want for it and let the lowballers bring it down to the right price. Seems silly, but I guess that's the trick.

You don't understand their mindset. Everything is negotiable, regardless of the asking price.

No, your method suits your needs and that's all that matters. Everyone has different objectives when using CL. Your method is fine but if I am using Craigslist for the sole purpose of making a profit I like some wiggle room in my price and if I list it at what I paid for it or pretty close then there isn't much meat left on the bones.

I just sold a jetski I didn't want to hang on for very long and I couldve made several hundred off of it, but since it was a new experience to me I just wanted to unload it so I sold it for what I had into it.

Takes a bit longer that way. Nothing is better than listing an item at say 5k, knowing my bottom dollar is $4.5k, and they email saying they only put together $4.5k, but really want the item.

I have had decent luck lately putting my absolute bottom and stating in the ad that it is firm.

If I get flooded with replies for an item I've posted for sale, I give it 24hrs and then sort the emails by how correct the spelling and sentence structure is. My theory is that anyone who can type intelligently probably is educated and likely has a job. That job gives them money to buy my shit and they probably don't have the time to jerk me around by not showing up at the agreed time, etc. It's a strategy that has worked pretty well over the years.

I also price high and let people talk me down. Seems like the buyer doesn't feel like they got a good deal unless they get you to come off the asking price. You could list a $10,000 item for $50 and the first offer you'll get will be $40. Guaranteed.

I don't give a shit if they send me a picture of a crayon drawing with the amount they are willing to pay. Money talks and if you have it, it goes to you first......
