I guess I've been lucky to have had nothing but good experiences on CL. When I'm buying, I type out a nice email with a reasonable offer and my information. I ignore posts without pictures or posts that made with terrible grammar. This usually cuts down on dealing with morons. When I'm selling, I NEVER put my number in the ad, and I respond to lowballers' emails with a simple "no thanks" or "sorry, it's sold". I guess I have developed a good system to limit my interactions with idiots.

I bought a tailgate yesterday for my truck and met a really cool individual. I paid about half what he had it listed for, and he still threw in some free parts. After meeting and dealing with him, I would've gladly paid his asking price simply because he was a good guy, and I realized how lucky I was to deal with him, rather than the plethora of ignorance that plagues CL.

My most pissed off CL moment was meeting a guy for a Jeep Wrangler I was looking to buy. I had cash on me to buy it, he confirmed the location and everything. I had Patrick meet up with me to see the Jeep and look it over. The ass clown never showed up, and never answered his phone, I waited for two hours.

I just had someone offer me $30 for $115 worth of brass as posted. I just don't even reply to them, I get enough offers to ignore the low balls. If you low ball me then you probably are not going to get it.

I figure that those people expect a counter-offer, so I get a tiny bit of satisfaction from telling them my price is firm. I decide what my bottom dollar is before I post, because I don't want to haggle with anyone. I try to price things cheaper than what they should be.

It's not just craigslist. We have this weekly bulletin thing at work where people can post stuff for sale. A guy in a different department who I'd never met was begging me on Thursday to hold a surround sound system for him over the weekend until payday that next Monday. He swore he wanted it, and tried to get me to take a post-dated check. I kindly told him I had to sell it to first person with cash in hand, but also told him I would let him know on Monday if it was still available. My price was cheap and he seemed to be drooling over the idea of buying it. I bring it to work on Monday, and let hi know it is still available. Only then does he tell me he's not sure anymore, and wants to know best price. I quoted him $25 MORE than my original asking price. Told him that was my new best price.

Then I had another guy here at work agree to buy a TV from me. He called dibs and I had to turn away about 10 people who called me after that wanting it. I bring it to him, and he starts trying to haggle on the price. This is AFTER he had already agreed to the set price. I told him no, and made it pretty clear that I would just sell it to the next person. He decided to take it and then hands me $15 less than the agreed upon price. Of course, he acted shocked and fumbled around in his wallet to give me the rest. Always count the money!!!

He assured me, it was clean with a few minor scratches.I have cash in hand and start my trike...

As soon as my eyes lock onto the bike I knew it was probably the shitiest bike I have ever put my eyes on. The wheels had gashes in them, scratches on fenders, cracks, light assembly was broken/missing. Bike hadn't been washed in who knows how long. It was as if it was in the back of a truck, fell off on the highway and was drug another 100 yards before stopping.

I was thoroughly pissed that day.

When I'm looking at a vehicle or an item that is considerably cheaper than it should be I expect to see some damage. I always bring the money expecting to pay what they are asking. I always make sure to show them I brought 100% of what they are asking before I low ball them with an item or vehicle that is not as described. When I eventually found a wrangler which was 1/3rd it's book value it was fucking hammered/destroyed. I drove it because he asked me to and I low balled the shit out of him and ended up getting it. So, sometimes it's more of an opportunity than a disappointment. And it was actually rolled many times .

damn, and you work with the clown. I buy a lot of used tools from a guy here at work. He goes to garage sale and buys stuff on the weekend. I get lots of good deals from him to fill my tool box. He usually tells me his best price and if I like it I will buy them, if not, I just tell him i'm not interested. Simple as that.

It was priced at mid to high retail if I recall correctly. It doesn't matter though. Anything more than $200 I wouldn't have bought that thing.

Did you try to get it for less? Sometimes it's worth the time invested for the right price. Obviously that varies with your patience and free time, but I've found it to be a welcome opportunity on occasion.

I met up with a guy to buy a fuckstain. I had the cash and everything. Then after a test drive I said I'll take it and he said well I'm not ready to sell it, WTF.

I didn't offer him anything. It was in rough shape and I didn't want to invest any time into it. I simply thanked him for wasting my time and left. Not really but thats what I wanted to say.

i like craigslist, buying and selling....get a low ball offer every now and then...but stuff sells and pick up some good items here and there.


My favorite buy...is when you drive to see it and you look it over neg a price...and then before seller takes cash.....hes like well i have one more guy coming to look at it tonight and i want to hear his offer......at that point im like its one of those deals....im gone.....about an 30 mins after that guy was suppost to be there he calls and ask if our deal is still a go. i tell him i was there, you waited, i moved on. thanks....hate those poeple who want to hear all bids...this shit aint ebay.
